"Love is for children."
Natasha Romanoff never liked the thought of romance let alone trusting someone so much that you want to spend your whole life with them. The last trusting relationship she had, other than the one with Clint Barton, was with her ex-husband Alexei Shostakov. It was equal to an arranged marriage, but she still forced herself to love the man and to trust him the most she could. "Makes this whole thing better." She would convince herself every night and day she was with him. One day she was informed of his death, she did not weep for the lost but only shed a few tears and moved on with her newly freed life. She would recall the times her so-called 'father figure' Ivan Bezukhov tried to make something out of the already existing relationship which she enjoyed a small bit. She was not interested in being with a man she thought to be equal to a father. When she was forced to watch him die right before her eyes, she finally cried real tears. Going on after losing someone you were with the majority of your childhood is definitely a challenge, but for Natasha, it's definitely worth it.
A few years later she joined the 'Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division' Agency. That later led onto her nomination for the Avengers Initiative which she eventually accepted and joined the team when they were first assembled. Over the years she grew more and cleaned out the red in her Ledger by saving lives instead of ending them. If she was forced to admit it, she would say that she feels way better-doing missions where you save lives instead of targeting and ending them. But there's one thing that she never dealt within these few past years of her new career and that's love. She never thought deeply about having a relationship, of course, there were small feelings here and there, but they eventually drifted away. That's until she met him. Right at the start, she knew it was a mistake, maybe she was right...
Once, she finally got enough courage she finally confessed her feelings towards him instead of dropping small hints in the hope that he caught. Sadly, he took his chance and made his grand escape. Maybe she was too pushy, maybe she was in too much of a hurry or maybe she was just way too selfish and didn't think about what he did and did not want. She hasn't seen the man for a couple of years, figuring that he's just dead like everybody else kept saying. She would sit in her room, blaming herself for his disappearance. She would sit in her room and cry tears of both guilt and loss for that man.
A couple of years, and a couple of crying sessions later the ghost risen from the dead, or should I say descended back onto Earth... Here she was believing she will never feel love again, here she is feeling a need for love again. But that's h how this timing was bad... The Avengers were knee deep in a battle worth while murderous Titan Thanos as he attempted to wipe out half of the planet. Natasha didn't pay attention to her long lost lover, but instead she focused on the mission. This was something that the Red Room left in her brain, "the mission always comes first".
