Lower Manhattan
12:48 AM
The children were all asleep now, it was quite a dramatic day for some. June didn't speak to anyone that night and went straight to bed. Her thoughts were all fuzzy and she could tell she had tears stains all down her cheeks. She didn't speak to anyone. Not even a little peep when Lavender said her finale goodnight.
Well she spoke to one person before her going to Ashley. She had poped up to check on her, as everyone had their dinner. She carried a tray of warm milk as she smiled walking in. "Now what's your problem? Not coming down for tea?"
"I don't want to talk about it!"
"Well maybe milk will help" Ashley went over to the bed and nudged June to get up, which she did. Her hair was all over the face and her eyes were red from tears. "Oh my. Are you ok?"
"No" June took a sip of her milk "I'm not. And if you don't mind I'm going to sleep until I mange to figure stuff out"
"How long will that be?"
"Forever"
Ashley laughed and went up on the bunk with June. She began saying everything will be ok. Though June thought differently as she didn't know what was going on.
"But even so. You have your brother. What was his name? Pop?"
"Spot" June politely corrected her. June just looked at her milk. Did she really still have a brother? He always left her. Always kept secrets. Broken promises. He was also busy a lot of the time. Once he missed a visit, which was on her birthday. He said something really big happened for him to miss it. Also got mad at stupid stuff. She remembered at age eleven she asked Spot about her parents if he could look for them. He got so mad at her he left early that day making her feel miserable.
"I guess. But he does kinda stupid stuff that's not great" Ashley then rose an eyebrow "Like what?"
"Well" June looked at her "Once on a day he was free from work. We call them visit days. It was my birthday. But he didn't show up. The next day he visited and said something massive happened that he couldn't come to visit. Though...I don't know I just have a feeling-"
"He ain't tell the truth?" Ashley nudged her. June nodded and then placed her cup down to yawn. She found it funny how it was this earlier and she felt tired.
"How about you go to bed now" Ashley smiled going from the bunk and taking her cup. "Get some rest. Remember you're going to Queens tomorrow"
"Yeah..You're right" June lied back on her bed. She took her cardigan off and placed it at the bottom of her bed. She could hear the other children come up the stairs so she turned away from the door.
The girls walked into the room. Millie and Daisy chatting and giggling away as Lavender silently walked in.
"Junnnnneeee" Millie smiled "Can I borrow your cardigan? I'm so cold! And Rick spilt my jumper with the soup!"
June threw it over and sighed. She out the pillow over her head. All she could hear was Ashley saying goodnight before turning the lights out. Lavender spoke a quite goodnight but June had no reply. And that's how the night ended for them. Just a nice quiet evening in Manhattan.

"Ow!"
"Shhh!"
"Well I'm sorry it's dark!"
The silence in the girls room was broken. There was a rustic and squeaky sound as the window was slowly opened. The were quite tall windows on one side of the the room, where people liked to sit by. It led to metal stairs, which were in the side of the building.
