Chapter 37: The 6th Month Apologies

June's eyes opened to a gold glow. The curtains waved as the window was open. She tried to sit up but her body felt like it would all fall apart. Her eyes began focusing on the ceiling.

What happened?

Everything in the passed couple of weeks struck her. Her heart growing in pain, by each second, on different things she encountered or done. She wished the blanket could eat her up with all the guilt she felt.

Birds were starting to sing when the door opened. June had little strength but managed to sit up to encounter Flame. The older girl placed a tray to the side and started sorting some things out. 

"You'll be up soon enough"

"How long was I ....asleep?"

Flame gave her some water and began getting some bandages ready "Well..you fainted. Then you slept for the a day and now you're awake" Flame sat on a chair "Everyone is back to their homes. Some are scattered a bit. Right now we're in Brooklyn"

Brooklyn.

The place almost made June forget everything. All her worries and sadness. Though it didn't last.

June pulled her knees close "Everyone hates me, don't they?"
Flame stayed silent. She sighed before saying "We're gonna have a meeting with you about it all. But don't worry too much"

June nodded. Flame stood up and began collecting things to take down the stairs "You're lucky you know" she mentioned fixing her things "To have a brother like Spot"

June slightly nodded as Flame continued "My brother is an idiot you see, don't see him much"

"Do you like him?"

"Sometimes" She squinted her eyes "Though I prefer other company" With that Flame took her things before heading away.

It was only 10 minutes later the door opened again to reveal James. June sat up with a smile as he entered. They were both silent for a couple of moments before June asked "Is everyone back home?" James nodded speaking about how they were back with Miss Crawford. She was in such pain when finding out they were missing.

"And those guys are gonna be charged for kidnapping" He carried on. He also mentioned how Liam was staying with Manhattan for a bit, as they offered to take him.June reached and held James' hand and they stayed like that for a while. James sighed before he said something. Something so startling, June just stared.

"I found my mum...."

After a minute June asked "Wh-what? How? Are you ok?-"

"It was before all of this" James said with a sad smile "I...well..I thought I saw her. She looked very similar. I was just getting some bread and she was just walking by"

June listened as James continued with his story "So I followed. One thing led to another and one night....well...I went up their metal stairs" James looked away describing what happened "She...she has another kid" There was silence " Around seven, with her new husband"

"Oh I'm sorry" June patted his shoulder going closer to him. James shrugged "I don't understand. She had me if she wanted a kid. But even though I don't understand, apart of me can't leave Manhattan. I just can't. I wanna talk to her or even to my...my brother? I don't know....I just don't wanna leave my home"

He sighed "That's why I got mad and I'm sorry. Also I would miss-"

June hugged from the side as he finished his story and she smiled "I understand, don't worry. We won't leave Manhattan"
