Isabella POV

The air in the car was so thick between us as we both stayed silent. I can hear the loud beating of my heart ignoring each other.

"Aren't you going to say something?" Alex says sounding calm

I looked over at him but his eyes were fixated on the road. Not answering Alex I turned my head back on the road ignoring him.

"Katerina shouldn't have said that". Alex says flatly

"No 'your fiancé' shouldn't have".

"We both were just 16 when I gave Katerina that promise ring. Had no idea she kept it for so long". Sighing he says

Looking at him now I notice that his face looked tired as he ran his hand through his hair. 'Did I need his explanation?' Thinking to myself.

"Yes you do Bella and I'm sorry for not confiding in you for after all you're my best friend and we took an oath to never hide secrets from each other.

Slapping my hand on my head for speaking my thoughts out when I felt nauseated.

"Pull over Alex I don't feel well".

Getting off the highway Alex packs on the side of the road as I unbuckle my seat belt and quickly rushed out of the car to throw up.

God I hate being drunk. I wasn't that intoxicated, just didn't eat much today. Standing up I notice Alex beside me with tissue and a bottle of water.

"Thanks".

I took the tissue from his hand wiping my mouth off and angrily snatching the bottle out of his hand. Opening the bottle cap I drank down the water thirstily.

Walking back to the car we got in and Alex drove off again.

"So you're not engaged?"

"Nope. Katerina's parents and mine thought it would be good for both families to join but I'm not ready to tie the knot as yet". Alex explains

"That explains it. But that doesn't explain the fact that you broke your promise. You could have called or  sent a text Alex".

Looking at his face I notice that the muscles at his jaw was twitching. He didn't answer but kept his eyes on the road.

"It won't happen again beauty I promise". He says as he looks at me smirking.

I couldn't help but smile at him. We stayed quiet after that. The only sound now coming from the car was the soundtrack by the Jonas brothers -Paranoid.
