I pulled on my jacket and my face mask. I needed to fit in with the crowds of North Korea if I was going to track my target.
I pulled up my hood when I got onto the street. I followed my target for what seemed like hours before he turned into an alleyway. I ducked in after him. He was waiting for me, immediately attacking when I came.
I grabbed his arm, throwing him against the wall. He threw his knife at me but I deflected it and pulled one out of my own. I lunged at him and aimed for his stomach. He barely moved out of the way.
He tried running away but I grabbed his jacket. I yanked him back and pressed my knife against his neck. He struggled but I pressed harder.
"Stop," I growled. "You're not getting away from me."
"You bastard," the man growled.
"Thank you."
I drew my knife across his neck and let him drop to the ground. I rolled my neck and it cracked a few times as I felt a presence behind me.
I breathed in. "Nice of you to show up. I thought you'd never come."
"You're hard to find," Director Kenny said. "Even for one of my own."
I turned around. "It's my job. What do you want? I've got to run."
"I have an assignment for you," Kenny replied. "You need to work with one of the other agents. His name is Nick Fury and you need to work together."
"Really?" I asked. "I have to work with Fury? Can't he just go fuck off?"
Kenny smirked. "Not without you, deary. Come with me. We have a plane to catch."
He turned on his heel and left the alley. I followed and tucked my hands in my pockets. We walked silently down the street, barely looking at each other.
In no time as we were at the airport. Of course, Kenny had his own private jet. I found a seat farthest away from Kenny before curling up and falling asleep.
Kenny woke me. "Good morning, sunshine. We're landing."
I groaned and sat up. "What time is it?"
"Early."
I rolled my eyes, getting to my feet and stretching. "Thanks. That's helpful."
Kenny glared at me. "Just follow me. We need to head to Headquarters."
I followed and we got into a car. I stared out the window, staring at the city around us. It was pretty but crowded. I never liked big cities but I had to be there for my job.
We arrived at Headquarters and I got out, stretching. I walked in and Kenny led me to a meeting room. Every important person was in there. Once I sat down, they briefed me on what the plan was. I was to be paired with another agent, Nick Fury, and work with him until the job was done.
"I don't work well with others," I said as I leaned back in my chair, crossing my arms. "You know this. What makes this guy any different?"
"Fury is a good agent," a director stated. "The best, in fact. You're our best assassin. You're paired with him because it's for the best. You'll be meeting him tomorrow along with a small meeting about the plan. Is that a deal?"
I bit my lip. If I took this, I could get this job over with and be done with it. I would never see this Fury again. I didn't know him nor did I care much for him.
I raised my gaze to meet the director's. "I'll do it. I won't complain at all. We start tomorrow?"
