Fury pulled into a parking lot of a hotel just as I woke up. I blinked in the light and shifted, taking my feet off the dash.
I started putting my shoes on. "Is this the hotel our suspect is at?"
"Yes," Fury responded. "Top floor near one of the fire exits. It shouldn't be too hard."
I put on the last shoe and sat up, brushing my hair aside. "I'll get him tonight but we need to act like we're together. So we don't raise suspicion. Go along with what I say and do."
"Whatever you say, boss," Fury said as he parked.
I glared at him. "Just pretend you're my boyfriend when we check in. Then you can go back to hating me once this night is over."
"I don't -"
I got out of the car and slammed the door. I grabbed my bag and waited for Fury to join me. We walked in and I took his hand to be more convincing.
As we walked up to the counter, I smiled widely. "Hello. Do you have any rooms available? We only need one bed."
The desk receptionist smiled in return. "We do. We have a few rooms. Do you care about one on the top floor?"
I shook my head. "No, not at all. That would be very nice, thank you very much."
We gave her our information and she handed us our key. Fury even grabbed my bag before we headed for the elevator. Once the doors closed, he handed it back.
I rolled my eyes and leaned against the wall. "What's the plan for sleeping tonight? Wanna share a bed or do you want me to hang out on one of the couches?"
Fury looked me over. "I'll share a bed. When are you going to . . ."
"Later," I replied. "I don't share my secrets with regular agents."
"That's cold," Fury said. "I might kick you out of bed later."
I laughed. "You back to liking me now, boo?"
Fury smiled. "I'm working on it, sweetheart."
I shoved his shoulder as the doors opened. We found our room and I stepped inside, throwing my bag into a corner. I flopped down onto the bed and sighed.
"I hate road trips sometimes," I groaned, kicking off my shoes. "They are too long and boring sometimes."
Fury set his back down and peaked out of the curtains. "You seemed like you enjoyed it."
I threw a pillow at him. "I hate you, Fury. Where's this guy Kenny sent us after?"
"Room 401," Fury replied, closing the blinds. "What's the plan?"
I grabbed my folder from my bag. "I have everything here. I can get everything done by myself."
Fury looked over at me, concern in his eyes. "What if you need help?"
"I won't," I replied, putting my hair into a ponytail. "If I do, you'll know it. Please, sit down. We need to figure everything out."
Fury sat beside me and we looked over the paperwork on our guy. We sat close and our shoulders often brushed. I got distracted every time we touched but I kept it out of my mind. I wouldn't let myself get distracted while on the job.
Fury's hand eventually landed on my leg and I didn't bother to move it. I leaned into him, showing a detail of the case. When I looked into his eyes, he was already looking at me, a smile on his face.
"Yes?" I asked.
"You're smart," Fury complimented. "I like that about you. You know how to figure things out."
"Especially for an assassin?" I joked, smiling teasingly at him.
Fury squeezed my thigh. "Especially for an assassin. Are we almost ready to start? It's almost eleven thirty."
I nodded. "Yeah. I just need to grab my stuff. Stay nearby in case I need you."
"Yes, sweetheart."
I laughed and started digging around for any weapons I packed. I armed myself and we snuck down the halls. We found his room and I pressed my ear against the door.
"He's talking to someone," I softly said. "I'll get the door."
Fury grabbed my hand and pulled me close. He kissed me quickly before letting go. "Be careful in there, Miyamoto. We don't know what's in there."
My eyebrows furrowed. "I'll be fine, boo. I was trained very well."
I stepped back and kicked in the door. Our suspect and his friend jumped to their feet. His friend lunged at me but I kneed him in the stomach, knocking him to the floor. I slashed at the suspect but he grabbed my wrist. He dragged me toward him but I broke free, grabbed his head to give it a quick snap.
By the time I turned around, Fury had already gotten the friend. He nodded to before turning around. I followed him out, tucking my knife away as we walked down the hallway.
When we entered the room, I slammed the door and slapped Fury's arm. "What was that kiss for? We don't even know each other!"
"Good luck, I guess!" Nick exclaimed, rubbing his shoulder. "Thanks for that. It hurt."
"Good," I said. "You shouldn't have kissed me. We aren't even dating and I just met you a few days ago. Why?"
Fury's gaze lingered on mine before he looked away. "I don't know but I guess I thought that if something happened, I wouldn't have let . . . nevermind. I'll leave it. You probably won't believe me if I tried explaining it."
I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow. "Try me."
"You're cute and I didn't want to say anything."
"So you kissed me."
"I didn't - it was an idea that came to mind and I didn't think about it," Fury defended. "I just acted on it and I'm sorry. I won't do it again."
"And I'm cute?"
"Yes."
I smiled. "Thanks. You are too."
Fury smiled. "Thanks. What are we going about our sleeping situation?"
"We could share the bed," I suggested, a hint of a smirk on my face. "I wouldn't mind."
Fury nodded and we started getting ready for bed. As Fury got changed, I stripped off my clothes and climbed into bed. I yawned and buried my head into my pillow.
Fury laid beside me and faced me. I felt his eyes on me but I didn't move. I wanted him to think I was asleep. Once his breathing evened out and I knew he was asleep, I picked my head up to look at him. With the limited light, I saw his sleeping face. I smiled a little. He looked so peaceful.
I slowly shifted over so I was closer to Fury. I was barely touching him when his head moved. I froze, not wanting to wake him up. When everything was clear, I rested my head on his shoulder. I closed my eyes and slowly started to fall asleep. Before I did, I felt an arm wrap around me and lips brush my forehead.
