I startled awake at the tail end of a dream. Nick laid beside me with his arm around my waist. I sighed and snuggled against him, my heart still racing. Nick wrapped his arms tighter around me as he murmured in his sleep.

A half hour later, I slipped out of Nick's arms and went downstairs. Getting a glass of water, I leaned against the counter in silence. Not even a minute later, the phone started ringing. I picked it and greeted the person on the other end.

"Hello, is this Tessa?" Kenny asked.

"Yes, it is," I replied.

"I thought you might be at Fury's," Kenny replied. "I need you to go on a mission."

I glanced at the clock. "Now?"

"Today, yes," Kenny said. "It's important. I'll give you the details when you come back."

I muttered a goodbye and hung up. Nick walked in a few minutes later and greeted me with a kiss on the forehead.

"Who was that?" Nick asked.

"Just some scam call," I replied. "I have to run. I have some errands."

"I can come with you," Nick offered.

I shook my head. "I have to do it alone. I'm sorry."

"That's fine," Nick said, pulling me close. "I'll see you around, alright?"

I nodded, smiling at him. "Sure. Kiss goodbye?"

Fury chuckled and kissed me deeply. When we pulled apart, I rested my hand against his cheek. He pressed his head into my hand, holding onto my wrist.

"I'll see you soon enough, Nick," I murmured.

"I know," Nick said. "Don't take too long, okay?"

I smiled widely. "I won't. Don't make a mess of everything, alright?"

Nick chuckled. "I'm not going to. Not without you to clean up my mess."

I nodded and went to change. I kissed Nick goodbye before I left. An hour later I was in Kenny's office. He was debriefing me on the mission I was going to be sent on.

"How long is it going to take?" I asked.

"I don't know," Kenny replied. "Months, possibly years. We don't know how these guys are working and we need information. You're our best and most trained agent for this job."

"I know," I replied. "When's the plane heading out?"

Kenny handed me a ticket. "Tonight. From now on, you're Jasmine Ryans."

I looked down at the ticket. "Okay. I'll send you an update when I land."

"Limited contact, alright?" Kenny warned. "These guys are dangerous and smart."

"As you've told me multiple times," I said. "I'll pack and then head out."

"How did Fury reply?" Kenny asked.

"He doesn't know," I answered. "I told him that I was going on some errands. He won't know that anything's up until I'm gone for too long."

"He'll figure it out pretty quickly that you ditched him," Kenny said.

I sighed, looking at my lap. "Maybe so. I'll see him around though. I have a feeling that that wasn't the last time I'll be seeing of Nick Fury."

Kenny stood up. "It better not. You two make a good team."

I stood up as well, a smile on my face. "Of course. I'll see you around old man."

Kenny chuckled and walked me out the door. I packed my stuff, including all of my ballet stuff. I picked up a small letter sitting under a pile of clothing. It was addressed to me from Nick. I opened it and started reading.

Tessa,

I didn't think I would write this but I didn't think I would get to say it. I hope you find this letter soon enough before you leave.
I love you. A lot. And I don't think I've ever loved someone as much as I do you. I want you in my arms for years to come and by my side through life.
I hope you love me back. You are an amazing woman and so badass. You are beautiful and kind when you're around me. I don't care that you are an assassin. I know I had some trouble with that before but now I don't. I know the woman underneath the mask.
I love you so much. Come by my house when you read this. I want to explain everything and give you the love you need. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. I love you.

With Love,
Nick Fury

I wiped my face of any tears and tucked the letter in the bottom of my bag. I left the compound, never looking back again.
