The ride back to LA was long and boring. We talked a lot during it and got to know each other better. Coulson was funny and charming, making small and genius jokes as we drove. We switched up who drove as we went, making sure one didn't drive longer than the other.
We arrived back at the compound and I checked in with Kenny. He greeted me with a hug and we sat down with Coulson and Nick. We gave the report and when we were dismissed, I went to my room. I was unpacking when Nick came in.
"Hey," he greeted. "Wanna come over for a drink later?"
I nodded as I hug my slippers onto a nail in the wall. "Yeah. I'll drive myself over. When should I be there?"
"Seven sounds nice," Nick answered. "It's nice to see you again."
I stepped closer. "I know. I'm sorry about -"
Nick grabbed my hands. "I don't need an apology now. We can talk about it when you come over."
I nodded, looking down at our hands. "Can we kiss now? Now seems like a good time to kiss."
Nick smiled and leaned in. I met him halfway and kissed him back. I placed my hands on the back of his neck as he grabbed my waist. It was slow and deliberate. It was a refresher after a mission.
Nick pulled away and tucked a lock of hair behind my ear. "You need to cut your hair."
I smiled as I stepped away. "I've noticed. I'll get it done soon."
"I like it long," Nick commented, "but I'm sure it will look nice in whatever haircut you get."
"I can pull off anything, after all."
"Like that tutu," Nick teased.
I hit his shoulder. "Shut up."
Nick grabbed his arm, feigning hurt. "I thought you looked very nice, Tessa. I'm sorry you can't take a compliment."
I glared at him, a small smile growing on my face. "I hate you so much, Fury."
Nick pulled me close roughly. "You're going to call me Nick from now on, okay?"
I wrapped my arms around his neck. "And what will happen if I don't?"
Nick smirked and kissed me hard. We started shuffling backward and fell back onto my bed. One of Nick's arm rested behind me as the other slipped up my shirt. I bit his lip as I gripped onto him. Nick pulled away and started biting my neck, sucking softly.
I groaned, smiling. "Fury . . ."
"What did you call me?" Nick whispered in my ear. "Because it sure wasn't my name."
I laughed and pushed his hand away from me. "I want to wait until later. Besides, this is work. I don't want Kenny to find out."
Nick pulled away and laid beside me. "I'm going to leave soon. I'll see you at my place later?"
I nodded, my fingers down his side. "Yeah, okay. I'm starving. You should make something amazing."
"I will, don't worry," Nick assured. He kissed me quickly. "I'll see you around, sweetheart."
Nick got up and left my room. I sat up and brushed my hair aside as I stood up. I walked out of my room and out of the building. I took a walk, enjoying the sun shining down on me. I returned to the compound just in time to get ready.
I put together a decent outfit and brushed out my hair. I put my hair up and made it look better than it did. When I finished, I left on my motorcycle. I drove all the way to Nick's house and pulled up, taking my helmet off as I turned off my bike.
I got off and went to the door. Knocking, I waited for Nick to answer. A few moments later, the door opened. Nick was dressed down in jeans and a blue shirt.
Nick smiled. "Hey. Come on inside. I'm making dinner right now."
I stepped in. "Sounds great. What are you making? It smells amazing."
"Steak," Nick replied. "It's out on the porch. I hope you don't mind eating out there."
I shook my head. "No, not at all. It's a lovely day."
Nick led me outside and I sat at the table. His yard was average with only grass and a few bushes. There was a hose laying in the yard but that was basically it. Simple but lovely.
Nick set a plate in front of me. "Here's your food."
I picked up my fork. "Thanks. I appreciate the food. It looks so nice."
Nick sat down with his own plate. "Thanks. I thought you would like it. I didn't think you were much of a salad eater."
"On occasion, I am," I replied, "but I like this. I ate pretty shittily while I was on that last mission."
"Which you should have told me you were going on," Nick said. "I would have liked to know you were still alive."
"It had to be secret," I replied. "You should understand why I had to disappear."
"You could have at least wrote me a letter."
"And blow my cover? Ruin the entire mission?" I shot back, ferocity in my voice. "I couldn't do that, Nick. Not everything is about you."
"When it comes to you, yes, it is," Nick said. "I had to know."
I shot to my feet, shoving my plate away. "If you're going to be like this, Fury, I can't do it. I'm leaving."
"Tessa -"
I whipped around. "It's Miyamoto to you. Don't come around me. I won't give you my time."
I left the house, getting on my bike. I made sure to twist the throttle a few times before pulling away. Tears began to form as my bike roared down the street. Though when I arrived at the compound, they were gone. I marched into Kenny's office, causing him to look up.
"Yes?" Kenny asked.
"I need another mission," I demanded. "A long one too. After that, a place to settle down and watch out for other agents.
Kenny nodded. "Of course. Let me look for anything. Keep on alert for anything I send you."
I nodded. "Thanks. I need it."
