❛ ʏᴇʀɪɴ ❜

If anyone saw me, they'd think I was concentrating on work while that was the opposite of what I was doing. Sure, my eyes were glued to the computer screen. But my mind was somewhere else.

Another week had passed since I got the news of the office party, which signalled that there were only two weeks left. At first, I had decided not to attain it, since parties were never my thing. But, seeing Minji and Jimin's excitement about all of us going there, I decided to endure it.

Besides, although he didn't ask anyone out yet, I knew Taehyung actually wanted to go, too.

The fact that he wasn't making any effort to ask anyone yet was a bit surprising. Because, he was certainly popular among the girls. The only logical explanation to this was that he had already fixed someone in his mind, as his date. I wondered who that was.

But even so, he was at least prepared about it. What was I going to do? Surely I couldn't ask someone out, because I wasn't close with anyone except the people who worked in this floor. Jimin was already taken and Taehyung has someone in mind.

That left me no option.

Unless... No, he's gonna be either alone or with several girls.

Besides, he isn't gonna settle for someone like me, right?

I was so lost in thoughts that I didn't even notice a figure had appeared in front of my desk until I heard my name. "Yerin!" I looked up to see Jungkook. "I've been calling you so many times, what's wrong with you?" He asked, sternly.

"I'm very sorry," I said, getting up from my seat.

"Cancel all my plans for this evening," he replied bluntly.

"Of course. May I know why?" I asked.

"As a matter of fact, you have to know why," he said, looking straight into my eyes. For a second, I thought I was going to faint under his intense gaze.

"I am attending a business meeting. And you will be going there with me."

I was suddenly at a loss for words. Although it had been a few months working here, I hadn't attended any meeting with other companies entirely alone with Jungkook.

"You may go home a bit early to get ready. I'll pick you up from your place," he finished.

"O-of course. I'll get ready appropriately and in time," I said, picking up confidence only in the last part of the sentence. He didn't say anything more, and went back to his office.

As if I didn't have enough on my plate already.

-

You've got all the potential to handle this meeting. Just be confident in your attitude, and stay beside him no matter what.

That's what Minji had said before I left the office in a hurry to get ready for the business meeting.

Stay beside him no matter what, huh? That's definitely what I was doing right now.

Because I was sitting in the car beside Jungkook while he decided to drive to the venue himself. The silence was killing me. I glanced at him several times but still couldn't find anything to talk about. I hoped silently that he'd save me the trouble and start the conversation himself.

"Is this your first business meeting alone?" Apparently, the silence was too much to endure for Jungkook too.

''Y-yes." Why the hell am I stuttering?

He just nodded. I finally took a good look at him in relief and realized just how handsome he looked. And the way he licked his lips after a minute or two was almost seductive.

It was a drive of about forty minutes from my house. The venue was a luxurious and spacious private lounge. It was so beautiful that I had to stop myself from exploring my surroundings too much, and concentrate on the main matters — Jungkook and work.

As we stepped out of the car, we were escorted inside by a man, whom I assumed was a security person. Inside the lounge, the Managing Director of the other company was waiting for us. He shook hands with Jungkook and then took my hand, brought it up to his lips and kissed it gently.

I couldn't help but notice Jungkook lose focus and his expression change for a moment just then.

As if I cared about that now.

The only thing I hoped for now was the meeting to go well.

-

And in the end, it did. Both the companies were satisfied with each other's work, and made contracts for future projects. So, we were on our way back and I'd bet anything that none of us could deny the awkward tension between us that had to be endured in this long drive back home.

At least the fruitfulness of the meeting did something to lift up my mood.

But unlike the drive to the lounge, this time it was Jungkook who looked desperate to say something. I thought of relieving him of the pressure for a second. But in the end, I decided that seeing him lick his lips in nervousness was better.

After a while, when Jungkook looked like he'd explode any moment, he started, "So, umm-". I looked at him, trying hard not to grin.

"The meeing went well, huh?" He finished. Turns out we had something in common. The inability to start a conversation properly when it was just the two of us.

I couldn't hold it in anymore and let out a smile. "I guess it did." He looked at me for a moment, and then back at the road. A very, very, small smile made its way upto his lips, too.

"Can I ask you something?" The smile from his lips faded as soon as he finished his sentence.

What does he want to ask that's this serious?

"Sure," I said. He hesitated for a moment and licked his lips once more.

"Why were you bothered by it?" He finally asked.

"By what?" I asked, not understanding what he meant to say.

"Why did it bother you when you saw me kissing that girl?"

"Why did it bother you when you saw me kissing that girl?"
