❛ ʏᴇʀɪɴ ❜

The week passed away in a blur. Minji and Jimin were having lunch together, mostly outside the office, so Taehyung and I became even closer to each other.

Hyeri often shot me death glares, and sometimes looked at me in disdain, but there had been no conversations with her. And so, I had almost failed to realize that it had already been a month and a half since I started working here.

But I was forced to remember it two days ago, when I got a message saying money had been deposited into my bank account as salary. Surprisingly, I felt neither good nor bad when it did because I hadn't decided what to do with it.

More accurately, I hadn't had the time to decide what to do with it. Because, my mind was preoccupied with what was going in my boss's.

After the encounter with him in his office, he hadn't talked to me about anything except his daily schedules and progress in different departments.

Was he angry about what I told him even if he didn't let it show? Or had he simply forgotten about it? Maybe it didn't matter to him, after all.

But by the evening that day, I was pretty sure he'd taken my words seriously. Because everyone had left and I was alone in the whole floor with a large stack of files on my desk.

Why? Because there had been some kind of a problem in the accounting department, which needed immediate attention, and apparently, I was the perfect person to solve it.

It was hard to focus on work and yell at your boss internally at the same time, so I decided not to do the latter, and get out of the office as quickly as possible.

When I finally finished solving all the problems and still had to explain it to someone of the accounting department, I looked at my phone and saw to my utter surprise, it was eleven pm.

What the hell? Where did all the time disappear?

But I was even more surprised to see that there were no missed calls or messages from Jin oppa.

He must have fallen asleep or something.

When I had finally finished explaining it to a girl of the accounting department and got into a Uber, it was nearly midnight.

I always used public transport or walked because my home was so close to my office but I didn't want to take any risks since it was late. Luckily, it was the weekend, and I'd be able to sleep well in the morning.

-

I reached my doorstep. Not wanting to disturb my brother, I took out the spare key from my bag, and went inside. It was too dark, and I couldn't make out a thing.

That's weird. Oppa never keeps the rooms so dark; he knows I don't like it. Is he not here?

I walked slowly inside, careful not to trip and hurt myself. Suddenly, all the lights went on at the same time and I was dazzled by the sudden brightness.

It took me a moment to realize that confetti was falling upon me.

''Happy birthday, Yerin!" They all cried out, big smiles etched upon their faces. There was everyone I thought dear to me. Jin, Namjoon, Yoongi, Hoseok, Jimin, Minji, Taehyung and surprisingly, Mr. Jeon.

I had forgotten my own birthday.

Before I realized it, a solitary tear had escaped my eyes. Minji hugged me and said, "Hey, hey. It's not something to cry about."

I tried to compose myself and said, ''Thank you so much, everyone. All I ever wanted was a true friend, and I never realized I had so many."

''Geez, you sound so grown-up, Y/N! Cut the cake and make a wish," said Namjoon oppa.

"Yeah, before he destroys it or something," said Yoongi oppa bluntly.

I took the knife in my hand, wished I'd never lose any of my dear ones, and blew out the candles. All of them clapped and Minji took a few pictures. "I'll send them to you," she whispered with a smile.

When everyone was satisfied eating the delicious cake made by Jin oppa — as I had guessed it was when I saw it — Yoongi oppa said, "We'd better get going now. It's already late."

''You're leaving?" I asked. Hoseok oppa answered, "Yeah, we're going to our place with Jungkook."

Jimin added, ''Minji and I are staying over at Taehyung's tonight, since it's not very far from here."

"They're all coming for dinner tomorrow. And, Namjoon's gonna stay over tonight," Jin oppa said.

When all the guests left, I finally went to my room to freshen up. Minji sent me the pictures after reaching Taehyung's. I immediately lightened up when I saw everyone's smiles.

Yoongi oppa with his gummy smile, Hoseok oppa with his bright one, while Taehyung had his boxy grin. Namjoon oppa's showed his dimples, while Jimin's eyes had become crescents. Minji was smiling gracefully, and Jin oppa's laugh was hearty, although it probably sounded like a windshield wiper.

What really amused me was Jeon Jungkook. For once in my whole month of seeing him, his lips didn't form a smirk. Rather, they had a kind, sweet smile etched on them. It made him look even more handsome, if that's possible.

I felt my cheeks heating up when I saw me beside him and realized how close we really were. I looked in the mirror and realized, my cheeks were the same shade of red.

Both in the picture and the reflection.
