Coldmess : Chapter 22 - Winter Solstice Gala
{Zeus's Pov}
"Zeus, have you finalized the deal with Castellano?" My mother asked me the moment we were seated at the larger than necessary dinner table.
"I'm working on it but it'll take some time mother" I replied with a straight face. My father being an asshole, had a slight awry history with Mr. Castellano when he was still a new industrialist in the business market. Now Castellano Cullenary industries were almost as big as the Dumas firm and my parents couldn't wait to make deals with them.
"Well, time is money Zeus, do not waste it." My asshole of a father said.
"Is it so? Father." Leah said in a warning tone. My dad had been giving me lectures about work and a marriage for benefit for an hour and Leah had been witness to it all along, she herself was urged by our parents to marry for benefit and I could see her patience giving way as my father continued his greedy banter.
"It certainly is Leah." He said giving her a nonchalant glance.
"Then please do not waste your precious time on trying to get your children married to some billionaire's heirs just so you can expand your business."
"You will marry one of the three suitors I have chosen for you Leah, with or without you're consent." My father said in his authoritative voice, too bad Leah and I had already grown out of his hold.
"I won't father, you can't make me," Leah said in a controlled voice. I smirked as I knew the reason for this argument. I was about to turn 21 tomorrow and according to my grandfather's will, the whole of family business was to be passed on to me, relieving my father of his power.
My father got up from his seat, unable to acknowledge that he's reign would soon end later tonight when the clock struck twelve. My mother got up too looking at Leah worriedly, "You shouldn't have said it, Leah, he's a bit too much but nonetheless, he is your father" she said in disapproval.
"He never acted like one mother." Leah's response was short but it hit home as my mother shook her head.
"Sorry..." My mother whispered before she walked away. The birth of the twins had improved my mother in a better way, making her more human and less superficial but Leah and I had agreed to stay aloof and only interfere whenever the twins needed us. I know my family was fucked up but nonetheless, we were family.
Leah rolling her eyes muttered some curse in Greek and left the table leaving me alone. Guess I'll be having the whole dinner table to myself. Given that I had a heavy appetite, I didn't mind it.
My phone rang when I was finishing up the desert. I know this sounds childish and not suitable for someone as important as I regards the company but I had my mouth stuffed with the heavenly custard apple pie Nia made us.
Nia was our housekeeper since my dad had been my age but more than that she was like a mother to me and my siblings. Leah and I were raised by Nia alone and she was the closest person to a parent that I had.
