And the beautiful spring came

     when she bloomed

          red, with a black eye.

Nature's loveliness resumed

     green stalk, proud

          bowing with the wind.

The human soul revived, too

     and we smiled

          lifting to the sun.

For what spring could be without

     the poppies

          red, with a black eye?
