Chapter 9

"YEAH BABY!" Layne screams as Donovan's team just won the water volleyball match. It was a long ass game as the boys were very competitive, vulgar and kept moving up the points in order to win. I finally put my foot down on fifteen points and now here we are an hour late -- Donovan spikes the fifteenth point.

The three boys in the shallow end all holler in excitement and I roll my eyes to the sky as Layne leaps up and starts to cheer like a fucking sideline cheerleader. Like did anyone say they needed one? Oh no? Then sit your ass back down and get to tanning.

I'm relieved as everyone starts to climb out of the pool; the losers looking very upset and the winners looking like gold medalists. I wrap my arms around Max's torso and then giggle as he touches my back, "Your hands are pruny." I say and it only makes him touch me more, causing me to squeal. He leans down to kiss me and we do, but then a snarky scoff and voice makes me disconnect.

"Oh, so the tattoo guy is Zara's? How old is he anyways? A little too old for her, yeah?" Layne asks somewhere nearby and I look over my shoulder to see her flicking droplets of water off of Donovan's glistening skin. He's not really paying attention as he's texting someone with his thumbs moving rapidly. Layne leans forward, "Don? Did you hear me? Who are you texting anyways?" She asks annoyingly.

Donovan suddenly looks up at her and widens his eyes, "I'm texting the prince of fucking Egypt. And I heard what you said, the guy is nineteen. I know what's going on. Stay out of it." He growls and she falls back. Damn, so I thought I was the only one who falls victim to his anger issues. I look back to Max who is oblivious of what I was hearing.

He smiles, "Ready to go inside? I helped win you free food tonight." He praises and I nod, then follow him back into the house. Everyone else is all lounging around in the kitchen and Donovan and Layne walk in last; closing the backdoor.

Donovan speaks with authority, "Alright, obviously it's no where near dinnertime as it's only almost three, so how about we do lunch with whatever's here and a movie?" He suggests; causing everyone to murmur in agreement. I tug on Max's arm; trying to get him to follow me, but Jack tuts in disapproval.

"Where are you two going?" He asks quickly and the guys start to 'oo' like the kids in elementary school would do when someone was being called to the main office. I roll my eyes, going to ignore him but Donovan speaks up and I stay where I'm at.

"Zaria, the game is over and his two hours is up. If he's going anywhere, it's back outside to get his clothes and then home." He growls. Ugh, I hate feeling like a kid and I definitely hate being treated like one by him on a daily basis. I let go of Max's arm and scowl deathly at Donovan.

"No. If your company is staying to watch movies and then eat the dinner that he helped you guys win tonight, then he's staying too." I say firmly and keep my eyes locked with his. He tilts his head sideways and squints his eyes as if he can't see me. I inwardly cringe as he smiles simply.

Oh this bastard... "Fine. Everyone leaves now then. I don't give a fuck." He snaps. Okay, I definitely did not expect that. His friends start to whine like kids who don't know how to go home after a play date and I widen my eyes at Donovan. He raises a brow as if encouraging me on to make another attempt at challenging him, but I just groan lightly.

"Whatever. Come on Max... lets go get your things." I hiss and ignore everyone murmuring happily. I throw the sliding door open and step out, then I cross my arms and listen as Max closes the door behind us. My heart is racing in my chest and I stare out over the pool; trying to get myself to calm down. When I finally do, I hear the chains on Max's swimming trunks clanking closer and then I feel his hands rest softly on my waist and wrap themselves around me.
