Chapter 24

"What the hell is that thing!?" I hiss at Donovan. He crosses his legs on his bed, propping his right ankle up on top of his left to give me a better look.

"Come on, Zaria. As if you don't know. It's a house arrest anklet, darling. I can't go past the sidewalk on the front lawn and I can't go past the end of the swimming pool in the backyard. Go fucking figure. Apparently Jack went and bitched about our little scrap. The cops were talking about how I nearly killed him or whatever. The bastard deserved it."

I agree with that last part completely, but now staring at this huge bulky looking watch thingy on his ankle is making me reconsider.

I pout, but Donovan puts up a hand, "Don't say a word. I know it's stupid, unfair and unattractive, but if it's keeping my ass out of jail, then I'm okay with it and you'd better be too. Now come here and explain to me what happened at dinner tonight. Cause I sure as hell don't know, except for the fact that you left me to get frisked by a cop with a complete fucking hard-on." He scowls and I no longer feel so much worry within me, but now feel much more of embarrassment.

"I-I don't know. It started off as some sexy fun, but then I think it went beyond that. I um--"

"Save your breath, Zaria. It sounds like you're about to fall over and start gasping like a fish. I know what you mean. I didn't think you'd be so bold like that. Were you okay afterwards? Did you have any attacks?" He asks in a serious tone; eyebrows drawing inward and I shake my head.

Then again why would I? I was in total control and I enjoyed every second of it. Maybe even a little too much.

His breath comes out together in a rushed fashion, "I think we need to chill. Cool it for a few days. Not so much, touchy touchy. I care about you and I don't want you to rush into something you're not ready for. Zaria, I'm one of those guys who can be very respectful in the right moments and times, but then when I'm placed in front of temptation, I take it and I take it hard. I don't want to put you through that. I don't want that for us, so let's just cool it down. Yeah?" His thick fingers gently stroke through my hair and the only thing keeping me focused and aware that this is really happening is his playing with my hair and the bright green light on his house arrest anklet.

"Yeah. I agree. I don't know what I want at this moment, but I know it has everything to do with you. You've completely sideswiped me into this lifestyle with you. The kisses behind closed doors, backs and the secrets piling up after one another. All of it Donovan, it's frightening, to jump ahead and start thinking of the what ifs, but at the same time... It's Extraordinary. With you, this is simply Extraordinary -- unlike anything I've ever wanted." I breathe and flicker my eyes back up to catch his neon blue ones concentrating on me and just me.

He grins, "That was so fucking dramatic, but right. I love you and I'm going to try to keep us together and in the dark. I don't know if I can imagine you out of my life. Pretty selfish with this one, but now that I have you, I don't want you going anywhere."

"You asking me to sleepover in here tonight?" I giggle as he rolls his eyes.

"I was actually trying to be a little romantic, but you fucked it up. Yes, brat, I would enjoy it if you'd sleepover, but don't get use to it. Our parents aren't mental."

I bat my eyelashes at him in the dim light of his bedside lamp, "Yes sir."

He reaches over and clicks the switch on his lamp, and it's my cue to climb onto the bed next to him. I fall out beside him and then giggle as he abruptly starts to make a spitting noise, "Damn, Zaria, I just got a mouthful of your hair."
