Chapter 20
I think I'm going nuts.
"I'm taking you out for dinner when you get back." Donovan mutters and I nearly choke on my toothbrush. I look up at him through the mirror of the bathroom and feel confused, but really excited.
"Like a date?" I muffle through toothpaste foam and he scowls at me.
"Labels... fucking labels. Yes, like a date, Zaria."
As soon as the word date leaves his amazing mouth, my stomach starts doing excited flips. I look down at my outfit and try to keep calm. Okay, I should probably change my outfit now. I'm wearing jean shorts with a lacey trim and a tight lavender tank top, but I only didn't try too hard because I know I'm going out with Max and I don't need to look good for him.
But now that Donovan's going to take me out when I get back...
"Don't change. You look good." Donovan growls hotly in my ear and I spit out the remaining toothpaste suds in my mouth, then rinse with water. When I put away my toothbrush to look up at him questioningly, he grabs my head and quickly pulls me up to his mouth. We're suddenly kissing and I'm damn near like a ballerina as I have to stand on my tippy toes. My neck is craned almost painfully, so I reach up with a hand, twine it into his thick hair and tug him down to my level.
I drag a growl out of him, "Don't make me stretch for you. You bend for me." I tease and he leans down, roughly biting my bottom lip and pulling it about an inch away from my mouth. It's oddly not painfully, but really pleasurable and oh yeah -- hot.
"Don't tell me what to do. If I want to make you stretch to kiss me, you will do it. You better be lucky you seem to have the sassiest mouth around me, cause it only makes me want you more." He grunts as he wraps his arms around my waist and hoist me up, onto the counter. I try to avoid falling into the sink as he captures my mouth with his again, but he purposefully pushes me back until my ass dips down into it.
I smack his chest and pull away panting, "Donovan! You jackass, my shorts are gonna get wet!" I shriek and he laughs deeply, then leans back and grabs my arms; helping me out and down. Once I settle my feet on the floor, I swallow thickly as the doorbell rings. That's Max and I'm going to die today.
"Hey," Donovan runs his big hands down my back, soothing me and evidently calming me down, "You're just going with him to talk to him. You have my number. Call or text me if you want to leave at any moment. I'll be here." He reassures and look up into his blue eyes. They're so big and exotic.
"Okay. I'll see you later." I mutter, then leave the bathroom and walk away from his hands on my back. He disappears back into his room and I want nothing more for him to come with me, but that's a little much for right now. Like I said, I'm already getting attached to him. I don't want to scare him away, but I can't help it.
Before I know it, all of my inner head monologue has distracted me up until getting to the bottom of the stairs. My mom comes out of the kitchen, "Is that your company, Zara?" She raises a knowing brow and I nod.
"Yeah, he's taking me out to hangout today." I say with a forced smile, bu she doesn't recognize it. Her head nods and I take that gesture to turn around and open the door.
Heart, be still.
Max makes me sick nowadays, but that doesn't mean he's gotten ugly. I feel my mouth go slightly dry as he stares at me with hopeful gray eyes, "Good afternoon, Zara." He says innocently and I shoot him a look. My mother clears her throat and he looks up and grins, "Hello Ms. Lisle. I'm Max, Zara's--"
