Chapter Two

Days went by. Finally, it was the day before the concert. Jess had co-op in the morning so she was never at school until after second period. I had music class first, that's always fun, it went by pretty fast. Then English. My friend Chelsea walked up and I started fangirling.

"What are you freaking out about?" She asked.

"Jess and I are seeing One Direction tomorrow night in Toronto!" I yelled.

Her face lit up. "NO WAY, ME TOO!"

I was not expecting that. You think she'd have told us. We were fairly good friends. But I didn't read much into it.

"REALLY?! WHERE'S YOUR SEAT?!" I asked.

Chelsea laughed. "I have no idea. I'm in section 300, I know that." She laughed again.

I screamed. "WE'RE FRONT ROW!"

"NO WAY, I HATE YOU!" Chelsea said, slightly less excited.

I screamed.

"Will you touch Liam's hand for me?" Chelsea begged.

I daydreamed about touching Niall's hand. Niall was my favourite. It was something about that decadent Irish accent that was as smooth as molten white chocolate, dyed green of course. And his beautiful straw-blonde hair and big blue eyes. That smile. He played the guitar too. What I would do to just sit down and have a conversation with him, just so he knew who I was.

"Ayley? Ayley?! Ayley!"

Apparently, Chelsea had been calling my name the whole time I'd been daydreaming.

She tugged on my sleeve. "We're gonna be late for English!"

"Oh shit!" I said, and we ran to class and got there after the bell rang. Not much after! It's not my fault he's so... perfect. I can't help it! We didn't get in trouble, so I didn't see the problem.

I sat in class doodling Niall's name on a piece of lined paper while the rest of the class read lines of a poem.

"Ayley?" My teacher called on me.

"Hm? What?"

A few giggles.

"Can you read the next verse?"

"Shit," I thought, "where are we?"

Chelsea pointed to the line I was to read.

"Thanks," I whispered.

She rolled her eyes and laughed.

I read,

"The shadow of the Dome of Pleasure

Floated midway on the waves,

Where was heard the mingled measure

From the fountain and the caves.

It was a miracle of rare device:

A sunny Pleasure-Dome with caves of ice!"

My teacher smiled. "Thank you."

I smiled back hesitantly, and went back to my doodles.

She bought my lie, I was satisfied. Why we were reading a poem that a guy wrote when he was high on opium, I wasn't sure, but I went along with it. My doodles were much more interesting. They were beautiful. I drew Niall and I as a stick couple with four wonderful stick children and a rainbow complete with a pot of gold and a leprechaun. It said "Ayley Horan" all over the paper with hearts and swirls galore.
