Chapter Seventeen

"Yes, Ayley, can you hear me?"

Niall thought I was talking to him.

"No, babe, shush for a second." I turned my attention back to the person in the stall. "Is there someone else in here?"

After a few seconds, the smallest grade nine I'd ever seen emerged from the stall. She just stared at me as she walked out and stood before me. She was less then five feet tall. She had her pin-straight, dark brown hair pulled back in a high ponytail, tied with a hot pink satin ribbon. She was wearing a t-shirt that was obviously from Hollister, with its navy blue and pink floral pattern and tie around the bottom, white jean capri pants with a brown woven belt (I imagined it was also from Hollister), and navy blue plastic flip flops (which also had the Hollister trademark seagull on the strap). Her blue eyes were bigger than the moon, brighter too, and were wide open, just staring at me. She looked afraid. As if she was afraid I was angry with her. She just stared at me. She'd obviously heard me talking on the phone. She heard that I was pregnant, that I was leaving for England in a matter of hours, and that I was talking to Liam and Niall. I could tell she was a Directioner by the look on her face. She looked hopeful. She heard me say Liam and Niall. I could see it in her eyes she was hoping that it was Liam Payne and Niall Horan that I'd been talking to. She just stared at me.

"Hi." I said.

She just stared at me. I smiled as best I could, considering the circumstances.

"Are you talking to Niall Horan from One Direction?" She almost whispered.

"If I say yes, do you promise not to scream?" I negotiated.

She gasped and held her breath. She buried her face in her hands and jumped around like a kid on Christmas.

"Ayley? Are you still there?"

I had almost forgotten Niall was still on the phone.

"Yea, I'm here."

"What's going on?"

I turned to the girl. "What's your name?"

"Jessie." She told me.

"Do you want to talk to Niall, Jessie?"

She squealed. I held out the phone to her and she ran over.

"Hello?" She said.

She screamed.

"Niall?! Oh my gosh, I love you!"

She started crying.

"...Yes!...Okay!...I'm so sorry!...I love you!..."

She screamed again.

"Okay!...Okay, here you go. I love you! Thank you!"

She handed the phone to me.

"Thank you so much!" She smiled.

"You're welcome." I smiled back as she started to the door.

"Jessie, wait."

She turned around.

"You can't tell anyone about this." I warned. "I'll get in big trouble."

"Okay. I promise."

She walked up to me and held out her hand. I took it and stood up and she gave me a big hug.

"Thank you." She whispered.

"Thank you." I whispered back. "Now go back to class."

I let go of our hug and looked into her crying eyes. She nodded and ran out of the bathroom.
