chapter eleven
-&-

I giggled as I stood with Veronica at the bar.

She was telling me about everyone in the room, who was who, what they do, what type of people they were.

I could tell she was over-exaggerating; her expression became more sarcastic as it went along.

"Honestly, half the people here are just here because they want to be nosy into everyone else business," she said, picking up her diet coke and taking a sip.

Not meaning too but I looked around, a part of me was hoping to catch a pair of eyes, the same pair that seemed to make my heart jump with every look.

I don't understand why the sudden attraction to him.

But for some reason, I want to be seen by him. I want him to pay attention to me yet I have no idea who the guy is.

He must be important enough to have been on the stage with Mr. Jackson.

Maybe he was in the office with him.

   "Evelyn,"

Snapping out of my daze, I looked back to Veronica who was now grabbing my arm and pulling me into a direction.

I gripped my lemonade tightly, not want to spill it all over the sparkling, glossy marble floor.

I wouldn't want to cause an accident either.

We headed to a set of double doors, the cold air hit you once you exited them. Chills shot up my arms, creating goosebumps as I held myself together.

She walked up over to the stone balcony and looked around in awe.

My jaw dropped at how large this backyard was.

It was as if the forest was this person's backyard. There were fields going on for miles, statues in the middle.

A massive pool centered in the middle of the place.

There were lights around the tree trunks, making everything look bright.

   "Oh my," I breathed out.

   "Beautiful?"

I jumped at the new voice that joined up.

Turning around, I saw the familiar girl from the stage standing there.

Her black dress looked more laced then I could see from far away. She also had a pair of gloves on her hands that I didn't notice before.

She held a glass of champagne in her hands as she stared at us. Well, more myself than Veronica.

"It really is," Veronica said glancing back.

I glanced back as well but turned to face her again.

"You must be Evelyn?" The girl asked, flashing a pearly white smile at me.

Her smiled was contagious because she has me smiling at her after she said that. I held my hand to her, offering it.

She looked at it and held her hand to mine, accepting it.

"Yeah, that's me," I said to her.

"She's new to town," Veronica said to her.

The girl nodded. "I can see. My name is Erin," she said taking a sip of her champagne.

It grew a little uncomfortable as nobody was talking and I could see that Erin was staring at me a lot from time to time.
