chapter thirteen

Sitting in the living room as I worked on a project, Veronica was actually with me even though she doesn't have the same classes as me.

She just wanted to hang out here for some reason and I wasn't going to complain.

Mom wasn't here tonight, she has this business dinner and won't be back until the early morning so I have money for food.

I'm glad I have company.

"Felix is being a complete ass," She mumbled harshly as she typed on her phone before throwing it down on the couch and wrapping her arms around her face.

Groaning, she falls down on the couch.

"What's he done?" I asked her, putting my pen down and turning to her.

Sighing, she dropped her arms and stared up at the ceiling. "Just... men," she said and sat up. "Is the pizza going to be here soon?" she asked.

I go to open my mouth but something much louder interrupted me.

Something unnatural, unusual, and quite frightening was heard which made me tense up and look behind me.

Growls.

A loud, bone-chilling growl was heard.

It made my blood turn cold from fear as I stared ahead of me.

It kind of sounded like the one from my dream.

"D-did you hear that?" I asked out loud to Veronica.

Getting no response after a few moments of silence, I turned to her and saw her a little stun, looking in the same direction as myself. After a second, she looked at me and blinked a couple of times, regaining herself.

   "Hear what?" she asked me.

My face dropped a little at her answer.

I know that she heard what I heard, her whole face was the same as mine when I saw her. She looked just as taken back as I was.

"T-that... that growl, you heard that," I said to her, standing up on my feet.

Deep down, I wanted to find out what that was.

Standing up herself, Veronica shrugged her shoulders. "Honestly, I thought it was my stomach. I'm so fucking hungry," she laughed at herself as she rubbed her stomach.

I didn't know what she was saying or why she isn't agreeing with me but I know what I heard.

Walking down the hallway, I opened our backdoor thinking that maybe it was thunder or something but when I opened the door, there was nothing.

No rain, no thunder.

The clouds did look like a little stormy grey but not as close to what thunder clouds look like.

It just doesn't seem right.

   "Evelyn,"

Turning around, Veronica stood there with her arms crossed and a concerned look on her face. She didn't look at all convinced on what I was talking about.

Running my hand through my hair, I turned back to the garden and saw nothing.

"I didn't imagine it," I mumbled to myself.

Laying on the couch as we turned the movie on.

The pizza was almost eaten in the middle of the room as we both laid on our separate couches.
