chapter fifteen
-&-Conner looked back at me with a frown on his face and a confused chuckle leaving his mouth.
It was strange me coming out of a book store, a little chaotic may I add. I don't blame him for looking at me like that.
I smiled at him, moving my bag around me, hiding it from him so he didn't see anything. I didn't need another one of my friends possibly thinking I am crazy or something.
He looked around before looking at me again.
"What are you doing here?" he asked coming closer to me. "You know there is a storm tonight?".
Looking up at the sky, that's when I noticed the peak of the grey clouds coming through the white ones. The gloom of the sky set the scene over the town and became a little darker than it was when I first entered the shop.
I looked back to Conner and nodded. "Oh. Yeah, I just needed to get some books for school. I had a few.. questions that I didn't know of," I said to him.
He looked at his watch before mumbling something, it went quickly so I didn't catch it.
Looking around us, he turned back to me. "I can walk you back home," he offered.
"oh no, you don't h-."
"Really I insist," he said and turned in the direction of my house.
Looking down at my bag, I kept it to the opposite side of me so that he could peek in and see what I was reading.
Catching up to him, I stopped beside him before going at the same speed as he was.
"You know, Veronica told me that you were being offish with her, saying things that she didn't get?" he began talking about.
Oh, man.
I don't really want to tell my story if I'm going to come across crazy again, I felt like that with Veronica so what if Conner acts that way for me.
"She did?" I muttered, underneath my breath.
He nodded. "yeah, she was just wondering if you were okay?".
I lightly scoffed. "Is she okay?" I responded without thinking.
He looked at me, his eyebrows knitted over and the confusion crossing over his face.
Looking ahead again as we crossed the town square, once reaching the other side, I came to a standstill.
Looking at Conner as he stopped as well.
"Look, I don't want you to think I am crazy or coming across rude right now but something happened that I just can't make my mind drop," I explained to him.
He nodded and moved his hands up to his chest before crossing them over and tucking them underneath his armpit.
Looking around, I was beyond thankful that the place was practically empty. Nobody to overhear what I am about to say to a friend who will most likely think I am crazy.
"I saw something," I mumbled.
He glanced away for a second, looking to the side as the words left my mouth. His mind was processing it all.
Biting my lip, I watched as he nodded.
"Okay, you saw something?" He repeated, I nodded. "What did you see?".
Shrugging, I sighed. "It was some big... animal thing, it was," I paused. " A creature, I'm not 100% sure but I do know I saw something the last night," I rushed out. "I'm not crazy,".
