Chapter 25: Lies

School mornings are always the same at the Evans' but today was different. Not just different but unusual. Dad went to work earlier than he usually does, Miles got to school pretty early, Connor was in a good mood for once and Sky..... Well she acted like Zach and I weren't a meter or two away fron her.

"Babe, why are you ignoring me and Cam?" Zach asked Sky who still avoided eye contact

"Everything's fine so will you stop asking questions?" Sky said irritatedly

"What the hell is your problem Sky?!" Zach half shouted which made my cousin glare straiht at him

"You wanna know what my problem is? My boyfriend and my cousin cuddling up in one bed!" She yelled which made Zach and I raise a brow

"Sky, what're you talking about?" I asked I asked and she rolled her eyes

"Oh please as if you don't know," Skylar held up her phone that showed a picture of Zach and I sleeping. "Any other excuses my dear cousin?"

"It's not like we did anything so why are you thinking shit about it?" Zach snapped

"You know, it's funny how I always thought that Mila likes you before. Now I know it's true, along with the fact that she's a lying, stealing bitc-"

"That's enough Sky. I don't care if you're family, I'll throw this cup at you if you finish that sentence," Connor appeared out of nowhere and interrupted Sky's rant

"I don't even know why I wanted to come back to this hell hole anyway," Skylar stormed out of the house with a loud bang from the front door Zach and Connor turned to me with concerned eyes.

"You ok Cam?" Zach asked and I nodded since I was still lost for words

"I was itching to throw something at her," Connor said. "No one insults my baby sister."

I rolled my eyes. "Sister, would've been fine."

"Cam, you wanna go around the city for a bit?" Zach asked

"Stop right there Zachary. I'm not letting you off with my sister," Connor said strictly

"Con it's Zach, I'm pretty sure you can trust him," I assured my brother who eyed Zach from head to toe

Connor sighed. "You're right but remember not to-"

"Bye!" I interrupted him, knowing that whatever he wanted to say was something I did not want to hear.

Zach and I took a joyride around Portland but I can still see the sadness in his eyes, the same look he had the day he told me him and Sky broke up. Behind the forced smiles he gave me I could still sense the anger and sorrow he felt and is still feeling right at this moment.

"You don't have to pretend Zach. I can tell you're still stunned about what happened."

His grip tightened on the wheel. "Fuck. I can't believe how selfish she was, saying all those crap about you."

"No Zach. Don't get mad at Sky, it's all my fault," I replied. "Maybe we shouldn't be too close."

"Are you saying we can't be close anymore because of me and Sky?" Zach asked and I slowly nodded. "Hell no Cam. I'm not gonna let that happen."

"Zach, I'm not saying we should end this. I'm saying maybe it's best if we should put some distance between us," I explained. "It's the only way you and Sky can be happy again."

"What about us?" Zach met my gaze

"We'll still be best of friends but a little less close," I said. "I'll get off here."

Zach slowed the car down until it stop next to the curb the seperated the road and the main entrance to campus. Once I was on the sidewalk, Zach drove one of his flash cars- which was a black Mustang -to the parking lot.

You did the right thing. I said over and over again in my head as I made my way in.

The moment I step foot on campus, I immediately saw Ryder and Sky less than a foot apart over at the lockers. I was even more shocked when Ryder wrapped an arm around Sky's shoulders and she looked completely fine with it.

Suddenly, I heard heavy footsteps behind me which came from Zach who charged at Ryder and punched him on his right eye. Skylar screamed at them to stop the fight but the two boys just kept attacking each other. Everyone else in the main hallway pulled their phones out to catch the brawl on camera while chanting 'Fight! Fight! Fight!'.

I immediately ran to the brawl and pulled Zach away from Ryder who glared hard at him with had traces of blood on his face and was held back by Sky.

"Get the hell away from my girlfriend!" Zach shouted

"You don't tell me what to do!" Ryder yelled

"ZACH AND RYDER TO MY OFFICE NOW!" Dean James' voice boomed from the speakers. "EVERYONE ELSE GET TO CLASS OR ELSE IT WILL BE CAFETERIA WORK FOR YOU."

The people who filmed Zach and Ryder's fight including Skylar immediately ran to different classrooms just before the bell rang for first period. Me on the other hand looked at Zach who's face was as badly bruised as Ryder.

"You know Parker, I should be thanking Camila for helping me get your girlfriend running back to me," Ryder said which made Zach look at me with a confused look

"Is that true Cam?" Zach asked

"What? Of course not! You know I wouldn't do that," I said defensively

Zach's jaw tensed. "I can't believe it."

Zach shot me a glare before he walked away with clenched fists.
