Chapter 36: Viral
C A M I L A
I felt my heart hammering in my chest as the woman I called 'Mom' approached me with a familiar look on her face. Before she could get any closer, Connor blocked my view of her and started shouting at her.
"Don't you dare poison her mind with all your lies," Connor barked. "Just go back to where you were and never come back here."
Miles ran to his side with clenched fists. "He's right. You may be our mother but that doesn't mean you can act like nothing happened."
I pushed through my brothers and a scowl immediately formed on my face. "What are you doing here?"
Sorrow filled her tawny eyes. "I heard that your father was sent to the hospital and I also wanted to see you three."
"You haven't changed at all mother," Connor said through his teeth. "If you really wanted to see us you wouldn't leave like that!"
"That's enough Connor!" Dad growled which made everyone else in the room turn to him. "Zach can you take my daughter home?"
Zach snapped awake. "Oh yeah of course Mr. E."
"Michael, you want this teenage boy to take our daughter home?" She asked
"You stopped being a mother to me the moment you left us," I snarled. "Let's go Zach."
-
To my surprise, the street where I live was swarming with cars that I've seen at WSH's parking lot. Zach managed to find a parking spot before we entered my house together.
We stopped near the living room where every sophomore, junior and senior from campus mingled with each other. Some of them were on the counter while shouting to the Lil Nas X song that was playing.
Note to self: NEVER leave Skylar alone in the house
My eyes scanned every face in the room to see if Skylar was anywhere us but it appears that she's not in the living room or the kitchen.
I looked over at Zach who had a blank look on his face. "I'll look for Sky. Can you kick all these people out?"
"You got it Cam," he replied with a goofy grin on his face before he yelled. "PARTY'S OVER!"
Everyone that was invited to Skylar's party groaned in unison as they filed out the front door. Since that was taken care of, I ran up the stairs and walked into Skylar's room where she laid on the bed while sucking someone's face.
"Ahem," I fake coughed which got their attention
"Aren't you that girl in the video?" The freckled brunnette haired guy turned to my direction
I raised a brow. "What video?"
"Surely you would know," she said bitterly before batting her eyelashes at her visitor. "Call me."
Once it was only the two of us in the room, I sat on the edge of her bed and let out a long sigh.
"Why did you throw a party without letting us know?" I asked
"Is it a crime to try and be happy for once?" She replied tightly. "And it's also a farewell party since no one wanted me here in the first place."
"That's not true Sky and you know it," I replied calmly. "We're all happy that you're here but we didn't think you'd become so..."
"Bitchy?" Sky finished my sentence before frowning. "I'm sorry I kept blaming you for everything that happened ever since I came here. I guess I got jealous because I saw how Zach acts around you now."
"Sky, Zach says it himself, I'm like a little sister to him and he's practically like another Connor to me," I refined
"But have you ever noticed if he looks at you differently from other girls?"
I really hate it when someone answers my question with another query but this time, my reflexes didn't react. Instead, it actually had my brain thinking as Skylar's words floated in my mind.
I've never actually paid attention to those things....
"I still love him but he seems to be done with the idea of us," The look on her face as she said those words scared me
"But what if he still, loves you?" I struggled to say the L word. "What would you do then?"
"I'll fight for us, even though I'm the only one fighting," she replied dolefully
-
I didn't like talking about the L word but for once in my life, listening to Sky's problems with Zach felt nice. It was the one thing that made her seem like her old self again. Although, our little catch up was disrupted when Axel called an urgent band meeting at his place which made me leave Skylar alone in the house.
It was incredibly easy to find Axel's house since it was the fanciest estate on the street he told Zach and I. Plus there were girls around my age and maybe even younger outside the grand vintage styled gates with banners that had his picture all over them.
Zach and I nearly reached the gates when a mob of paparazzi bombarded us with questions that I barely understood since they spoke all at once.
As if on cue, Axel ran to my side and politely told the paparazzis to go away. "Sorry but we have to go."
"Wait!" A middle aged woman in a black AC DC tee and Levi's denim jeans with her fingers wrapped tightly around a Canon camera appeared in front of us. "How does it feel to be internet famous and the Axel Miller's girlfriend?"
Girlfriend?!
