Sonic PoV:

Finally!! My leg doesn't feel like it's gonna snap if I put my weight on it! Shadow declared an hour ago that we needed to head out today, and so now we're on our way.

Silver was effortlessly floating along, and Shadow was on alert. I seemed to be the only relaxed one here. I look up at the sky, trying to tell the time by the position of the sun. "Shadow?" I ask. "What?" He grumbles, his ruby eyes flicking over to me. "What time is it?" I ask, my eyes still on the sky. I hear him sigh heavily.

"A quarter 'till noon. Now shut up."

I pout, looking back at the trail ahead. Well, it was less of a trail and more of a field. "Silver." I whisper, getting his attention. "What does 'a quarter 'till noon' mean?" He snickers. "What?" I ask in my normal voice. "A quarter is twenty-five minutes." He responded lowly, his voice still bouncing with giggles. "Oh."

No one PoV:

The group had walked for hours, and by the time they'd decided to stop they'd reached the edge of a forest. "Let's rest here." Shadow stated out of the blue. "I'm down for that!" Sonic cried, sitting down. "My leg's killing me!" Silver landed on his feet, stretching. "It would be wise to rest it." He answered.

Shadow nodded. "He's right. You two stay here while I go get some firewood and flint." He ordered, walking into the woods. Sonic and Silver sat in silence, the only thing breaking the stillness was birdsong and a gentle breeze. "I wonder if there's a stream nearby." Sonic wondered aloud, watching the pale pink clouds float across the fuchsia sky. "There might be." Silver softly responded, laying down.

"I hear water somewhere nearby." Silver said after a moment. Sonic hummed, trying to hear what Silver did. "I don't." He grumbled. "I just smell the water. It smells like rain." Silver looked over at Sonic. "Rain is water. Also, if you don't mind me asking, why do you want water so bad? Are you thirsty?" Sonic shrugged. "A little bit." He admitted. "I mainly want to soak my leg. It aches."

Silver sighed, looking back up at the pastel sky and clouds. He enjoyed this time alone with Sonic, and he even felt his heart flutter every now and then. He wasn't sure what it meant, but he knew the feeling made him giddy.

He kinda liked it.

Shadow PoV:

It was getting dark as I started back towards the clearing I left the other two in. I'd been out for at least an hour, and I gathered more than enough wood and food for us. I don't feel as though I'm alone, however...

The snap of a twig behind me was enough to set me off. I whip around, expecting to see a bear or a mountain lion, but what I did see was much more horrifying. I nearly drop my items out of shock. "Shadow." His menacing, silky voice caused my heart to drop. "Oh how long I've been awaiting your return."

Mephiles steps forward, his steely green eyes piercing my soul. "Mephiles. I snarl, using a teleportation trick I learned when I was little on the supplies. "When Shadowflare arrived without you, I started to worry," he sarcastically began, starting to circle me, "and I feared the worst." He tightens his circle around me, and I never take my eyes off him. "Bull crap." I spit, narrowing my eyes at him. "I took matters into my own hands, and started searching for you," he monologues, "and yet here you are; far from home and stinking of Blue and Silver. Pathetic."

I feel my quills start to bristle and my fur stand on end as he circles me tighter. "Is this some offbeat plan to sabotage us? Your own blood? Or is it about getting the kill on them when they least expect it, hm?" He interrogates. "Speak Shadow. You need not fear me." The malice in his voice sickens me. "You don't command me, anymore." I sternly snarl. "I command myself."

"Ahh, So it's about your pathetic little crush on the Blue Blood, is it?" He evilly questions, getting in my face. I bear my teeth in another angered snarl, my cheeks flushing a deep grey. "I see. I'll be sure to fix that soon. Sleep with one eye open, Shadow, or you may never wake again." With that, he melts away and into the shadows. I rush back to the other two, this encounter causing my head to spin. I burst through the trees, praying to whatever gods watch over me that they're okay.

"Oh, hey Shads." Sonic quips, looking over. "Somethin' wrong? You look stressed." I stutter for a moment, trying to find the right words. "Yes, all is well." I lie. "Let's just get the fire going and food cooked. We have a long night ahead of us."
