Silver PoV:

Shadow's been rushing us ever since we stopped by that forest. He always seems so on edge. It makes me wonder what he saw to make him so..so nervous.

"Shaaaaadoooooow." Sonic complains. "We've been walking through this forest for daaaaaaaays. I want to ruuuuuuuuuuun." He ran in place to prove his point before continuing after us. "No." Shadow growls sternly. "We walk until we reach a field." Sonic pouted, leaning over to me. "Who put Mr. Grumpy Pants in charge?" I couldn't help but snicker at his comment. Though I loved him, and he was better than not having a father at all, he was extraordinarily grumpy. All. The. Time.

No One PoV:

The group walked for hours more, only knowing it was sunset from the dappled golden light filtering through the trees. "Alright." Shadow sighed, stopping. "We camp here." He turned to the other two. "I'll go get food. Sonic, you and Silver find some water." He said. Silver nodded. "Of course!" He beamed cheerfully, leading Sonic off into the woods.

Shadow's stomach churned as he scoured the forest for any rabbits or deer. Mephiles's threat was starting to push him over the brink. He was frightened by mere shadows, or startled by the faint rustle of grass and leaves. "What's wrong with me?" He asked himself softly, plopping down on an exposed tree root. He and Mephiles were almost evenly matched, and with Sonic and Silver, he could surely be taken down.

If only he had the courage to tell them.

"Ah-ha!" Silver chirped, popping through some bushes. "A river!" He crawled the rest of the way out of the flowering bushes he was in, standing and trotting down to the banks. Sonic jogged over and stopped beside him. "Wow." He sighed contently, taking a deep breath in. "It's so nice out here. I can't believe I never left." Sonic started as he took off his shoes and socks. He sat downstream from Silver, and stuck his aching legs and feet into the water.

Silver smiled, dipping a water-skin into the crystal clear rapids. He shuddered as the sensation of the cold water sent shivers up his spine. After filling the leather water-skin, he cupped his hands and filled them with water, drinking it. "Ahhh." He breathed. "Crisp and cool." Sonic caught on, and copied Silver's actions. "Refreshing!" He purred. Silver filled the last two water-skins, standing. "Alright, lets get back." He declared.

Sonic, while reluctant, pulled his feet from the water and dried them with a handkerchief he'd so happened to brought along. He pulled his socks and shoes back on, and followed Silver into the forest. When they arrived on their campsite, they saw Shadow had already returned and started a campfire and set up 'tents'. "We got the water." Silver announcer when he stopped by his father. "And Sonic got in a little soak." Shadow glared over at the blue male, and Sonic casually wandered over to his tent, whistling innocently.

"Thank you, Silver." Shadow grumbled, taking his own water-skin. Silver nodded and mumbled a 'you're welcome' as he walked over to Sonic and the tents. "Thanks for ratting me out." Sonic snorted playfully. Silver chuckled. "I was just stating what I saw."

The group ate their food when it was done cooking and rested up for the night. They rotated watch every few hours, on Shadow's orders. The forest was eerily quiet on Shadow's final watch as the sun began to rise. Fog clung to the dew-laden grass and the moist oak trunks. Crickets wrapped up their symphonies, and birds started to emerge from their nests for breakfast. Sonic was lightly snoring, and sprawled out on his fur bed, while Silver was all curled up into a tight, dove-grey ball. Shadow sighed, feeling at peace with the land around him.

Though he knew it was only a matter of time before Mephiles returned for the kill. He looked up at the faint, dappled light of the sun through the dark leaves, and sighed deeply. He didn't want to leave this forest. Ever. But he remembered their urgent quest; to find what lies beyond the provinces.

AN: yo. So I'm probably just gonna switch to a third person view from now on, since I suck at first person :/ oh well. I'll still try to use PoV's every now and then for effect, but it's mostly gonna be third person from here out. Woot that's all for now.
