Lunch time came and Jake waited for me by my locker. He smiled his cocky smile at me probably planning more of his cheesy gimmicks or something and I smirked then rolled my eyes. I almost floated towards him and we walked hand in hand towards the cafeteria.
“So… is there anything else you’ve planned for today? You know how I deal with surprises.” I said beaming at him.
“Nope, no more.” He said popping the ‘P’ sound giving me a wink.
“Yup. Okay.” I said teasingly also popping the ‘P’ sound. He rolled his eyes and chuckled.
We made our way to the cafeteria silently. Our silence is the only silence I love. There was never any awkward feeling in it. Our hands swayed in harmony as we walked in. Nobody stared at us anymore. Unlike before, we were the center of attention. I and Jake weren’t really accepted as a couple at first. They said that I wasn’t good enough for him and that he’d eventually find someone better. But here we are eight months after… in their faces! I smiled proudly at the cheerios that were eyeing me from the “popular girls table”. I think that my smile always insult them. So I see to it that I smile at them at least once every day. I smirked then rolled my eyes at Blaire, the cheer captain that has a huge crush on my man. Wow, I am being such a b*tch today. Well, it’s not like they don’t deserve it anyway.
I sat on our usual table while Jake went in line to buy our food. Everything was going just like every other day until I noticed a crowd forming at the left wing of the lunch room. Just when I was about to get up to see what all of them were looking at, one of my best friends, Joanne came up to me with an excited grin on her face.
“What?” I asked her smiling back.
“The new kid is just so hot!” She said practically jumping up and down fanning herself with her hand.
“Explain, please,” I said giving her a quizzical look.
She sat down next to me, still looking enthusiastic. “Okay…” She paused fanning herself again.
“There’s this guy who just transferred here. And Oh-Em-Gee he is hooooooot!” She squealed in excitement. I rolled my eyes at her. She knew that I’d never see anyone hotter than my man. Jake was the only hot guy for me.
“Oh, please.” I said waving my hand dismissively. She pouted.
“You know, you really need to get your eyes on someone hotter. I mean, it’s not like you’re cheating on Jake if you just took a quick glance on someone who is clearly hotter than him,” She stated in an as-a-matter-of-fact tone. I really didn’t appreciate what she said. I know what I want and need, and that’s Jake. No one else.
“Jo, you know how I feel about you pushing me towards other boys, right?” I told her pouting. She raised her hands in a stating-she’s-innocent manner.
“Sorry,” She muttered.
Someone plopped next to me. It was Jake. An automatic smile stretched across my face. “Hey, doll face,” He greeted me with amusement.
“Hey Joanne,” He added when he noticed that there was someone else in our presence. “Hey, Jake,” She greeted smiling at him pleasantly.
“Hey, I better get going. I’m gonna…” She trailed of giving me an I-have-a-plan smile. I knew what she meant. She was gonna go up to the new kid. Joanne was always like that. She liked handsome and hot boys.
Jake looked at me with a curious expression. “What’s up?” He asked me.
“It’s nothing. There’s just this new hot transferee that Joanne likes. You know her with boys,” I said making quotation marks with my hand at the word hot ‘because I haven’t really seen him yet.
