My phone was still turned off the next morning when I went to work. I left it in my locker, wanting to be left alone. Apparently in the time that I'd turned my phone off, I'd missed the official announcement that we were going into lockdown, and that my Old Man was in town already.
Around noon, Opie and Kozik showed up in the waiting room, looking for me. The receptionist had to track me down to give me the message.
"I'm working, what's so urgent?" I asked, coming out to meet them.
"We're in lockdown. We need to go babe," Kozik said.
"Not that I'm not thrilled to see you, but I can't leave. I'm here until seven," I replied. "I'm sorry, but I'm not about to risk losing this job."
"But you'll risk your life?" Opie asked.
"Leave a Prospect. I'll be fine here."
"We're going to talk about this later," Kozik said.
"Sure. Love you," I replied quietly.
"I love you too."
I walked out around seven to find him sitting there in the waiting room. "We'll go back your place and grab a bag and then we're going to the clubhouse," he said, wrapping an arm around me.
"Okay." I was too tired to argue.
"What was up with you this morning?" he asked as we got in my car.
"It's a long story," I mumbled.
"What does that mean?" he asked as I pulled out of the lot.
"It's a work thing," I replied. I took a deep breath and let myself spill my guts about the warning I'd received. I forced myself to keep my mouth shut about Donna. I hated keeping this from him when he was so open and honest with me.
When we got into the house and locked the door, he pulled me into his arms. "It's gonna be okay. She didn't suspend you. Just stay away from Tara at work." He rubbed my back and I sobbed into his shoulder, letting him think this was all about my work problems.
We parted and he leaned down to kiss my forehead. "Come on, let's get you packed so we can go." Koz helped me pack for a couple of days. I changed into comfortable clothes and I let him drive us back to the compound.
It was pretty calm when we walked in. Gemma and Clay were on us in an instant. "Next time, if I say lockdown, I mean get your ass here," Clay whispered in my ear.
"Got it," I nodded.
"There's a room set up for you in the back," Gemma told me. "Get some rest."
"Thanks," I yawned and we headed back to the dorms.
He closed the door and locked it behind us. Kozik sighed and turned to look at me. "Are you okay?" he asked, crossing the room.
I put my hands on his chest, looking at this kutte. I ran my fingers over his Sergeant's patch. "This is new," I mused.
"I tried to call you last night and tell you," he replied quietly. He took my hand and kissed my fingertips. "I'm worried about you, Diana. Something's wrong, and it's more than just what happened at work."
I buried my face in his chest and debated if I should really say something. "It's about Donna," I whispered, pulling back just enough to reach his ear.
Kozik's brow furrowed and he looked down at me, "What do you mean? I thought Opie found that guys that did it."
I let out a quiet rye laugh, "He did, but it wasn't the guys he got initially."
