Oncoming Storm (Fairy Tail)

Chapter 8

The only thing that surrounded Kayla was darkness. Not the type of darkness that happened due to lights being turned off or the sun setting, the type of darkness that swallowed everything up like a void of nothingness. If not for the muffled voices that echoed around her, she would of assumed that she was sent to some kind of void of nothingness.

One voice in particular stood out to Kayla. It was familiar, but she couldn't exactly place it. Until someone suddenly appeared in front of her. A man with slicked back gray hair was looking down at Kayla with cold silver eyes. The darkness around her faded and she was in a room that, based on the damp air and the musty scent, was underground.

"Pathetic. Do it again." He said, and immediately something was caught in Kayla's throat, it seemed like she was doing a roar, but the spell wasn't going as it was supposed to. It had gotten stuck in her throat and preventing air from entering her lungs. She reached up and grabbed at her throat, coughing and trying to breath in while not actually getting any new air in her lungs.

There was a sudden sound of a cracking whip and a scream, but it sounded distant, as if it wasn't actually coming from her, but instead from someone far, far away.

Immediately her surroundings faded into nothingness before shifting into a forest, the sound of rain hitting leaves filling her ears as she started running. There was laughter behind her that caused her to look over her shoulder, only to be filled with fear once she did.

A figure was running after her, seeming to flicker from the man from before and Laxus. The figure raised his hand and reached towards Kayla shooting her down with a bolt of lightning. Laying on the ground, unable to move, the figure walked up to her, finally settling on the man from before. He stood over her with his hand pointed towards her chest.

"You can't hide forever." He said, his voice distorted. "No matter where you are, I will always find you."

Kayla sat up in a panic, breathing heavily as cold sweat soaked her body. Looking out the window she saw that it must be early in the morning due to the Moon still being out, but there was no possible way she was going to be able to get back to sleep after that dream.

Walking into her the bathroom, she turned on the shower and got undressed, jumping into the shower and letting the ice cold water wash over her. Once she was done, Kayla stepped out and dried herself off before changing into her normal attire. She knew that since she wasn't going to get back to sleep so she ,igniting as well take a walk around town, so she walked out of her dorm room and out of the building.

The sun was just barely rising as she walked along the river, balancing on the edge. Everything was peaceful until she heard some shouting from an apartment building and a familiar group of wizards walked out of the building. She was just going to walk away when Natsu spotted her.

"Hey! You're that Lightning girl from Laxus' group!" He exclaimed with a wide smile. "You're pretty strong, why don't you join us on this job we're going to do!"

The blonde girl who Kayla recognized as Lucy crossed her arms and sighed, "Natsu, she's part of the Thunder Legion. I don't think we want to anger Laxus by taking one of his team members."

"I agree with Lucy. Laxus will kill us if we take her." Gray said.

"Yeah, Natsu. Maybe you should think this one out for once." Happy stated, waving his paw dismissively.

"I have to agree with them." Kayla said, getting the attention on her. "I would prefer that I, you know, didn't get on Laxus' bad side. I haven't been in the guild for too long but it's pretty obvious that Laxus doesn't really like you. At all."

"Well who cares what Laxus thinks." Natsu asked, he turned to look at Erza, who had been silent most of the conversation, "What do you think, Erza?"

Everyone looked at Erza, who had her arms crossed and she was looking at Kayla. "I think it might be a good idea." She said after a minute of silence.

"What?" Kayla squeaked, sounding as confused as the others looked.

"Erza, Don't you know what Laxus will do if he finds out?" Lucy asked.

"Just as Kayla said, she's only been in the guild for a short time. She should get to know wizards other than the Thunder Legion. What better way than to go on a job with us." She said calmly.

Natsu chuckled, "Then it's settled, looks like you're going on a job with us, Kayla!"

"Laxus is going to kill us." Lucy whimpered.

Kayla bit her lip, as she was dragged by Natsu towards the Train Station. Kill you? Honestly, I'd be more surprised if he dosen't kill me.

The six of them were sitting on the train as they headed to Oshibana Town. As Natsu was passed out on the seat across from her, Erza told Kayla about the job they were going on.

Compared to the S-class jobs she went on with the Thunder Legion, this one seemed like it was going to be simple. It was a search and retrieve job. They were to retrieve a journal from a manor that was abandoned years ago. The journal is said to hold the plans of a Dark Guild Eisenwald, a guild that was disbanded years ago. But the plans that the journal might contain could mean the end of the world if it ended up into the wrong hands, especially the hands of a Dark Guild. What was strange about the job was the fact that many wizards have taken up the request, but they almost always come back empty handed.

And one thing that bothered Kayla was the town name. She could of sworn she had been there before.
