The next morning Rory woke up before her alarm. She slowly got out of bed her head hurting from a hangover as she slowly scuttled to the kitchen for much needed coffee. The dorm was oddly silent. She started to make the first pot of coffee, but it wouldn't turn on.
"No, no, no, no, no, no! NO! You will not do this to me Philippe!"
She tried again and failed. She let out a cry of frustration and trudged back to her room to get dressed. She then headed out to go get coffee when her cell rang. She grumbled as she got out her phone. The caller ID was unknown. She sighed before she mustered all the energy to answer politely.
"Rory Gilmore speaking."
"Hello Miss Gilmore, this is Hugo Gray. I'm calling to offer you spot on the campaign trail, once you graduate of course."
Rory stopped in the middle of the hallway.
"I'm sorry, but you must be mistaken. I haven't sent in any resumes at all in the - Um, excuse me, but when exactly did you receive my resume?"
"Not too long ago Miss Gilmore."
"Can you give me any specifics?"
Rory's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"I wasn't in service range 3 days ago... - wait, Mr. Gray what email address did you receive the resume from?"
"Uh, one second... here it is: lg.dragonfly@gmail.com."
Rory cursed silently, "Thank you Hugo, but I am afraid that I must decline."
"You sure?"
"Yes."
"Well, you have until Monday if you decide to take the offer."
"I'm sure I won't, but thank you."
Goodbyes were shared and then the call ended, Rory threw her phone at the wall in anger.
"Mother!" She sneered at her phone.
She hurriedly got dressed, grabbed her keys, and took off to Stars Hollow.
As she stormed off to her car, she was caught by the arm by Logan.
"Whoa, slow down there Ace."
"I don't have time to talk Logan. I need to talk to my mother."
Rory tried to get out of Logan's grasp, but he pulled her back.
"Rory."
Her head whipped to look at him and he looked in her eyes and knew something was wrong. Something very VERY wrong.
"Rory, talk to me. What happened?" Logan looked at her seriously. He moved his hands to turn her towards him, caressing her elbows.
Rory's eyes flickered for a second before she closed them, took a deep breath and ran a hand through her chocolate waves of hair.
"I got a call from Hugo Gray today." Rory sighed.
"Gray? As in Online Magazine Hugo Gray?" Logan recognized the name as one of Mitchum's business associates that he had spoken with a few times. He liked the guy, but he wasn't so remembering of society gatherings...much.
"Yeah. He offered me a job." Rory said curtly.
"And you aren't happy with it." Logan observed, but his eyebrows were scrunched together in concentration.
Rory snorted, "Yeah. Definitely not happy with it."
"May I ask why?" Logan said with much concern.
Rory looked down at her shoes, before speaking, "It's the campaign trail. Traveling, buses, reporting on politics, crappy hotels, that whole shebang."
"And you couldn't take it because you have other responsibilities."
"It's not just that Logan, I didn't even apply for that job!" Rory burst.
"Ace."
"My mother did! I even asked him, and there was proof that it was her. She sent it through her own email!" Rory exclaimed growing more angry with every word she spat.
"Rory."
"I am going to go talk to her. I need to know why she was applying for jobs under my name, which is funny since it's also her name. Her name! Using that tie to get away with anything! I can't believe the nerve!"
Then Logan kissed her. He kissed her long enough to draw her attention back, but before she could respond he pulled back. She pouted in response.
"Rory. Everything is going to work out just fine." Rory nodded, "Do you want me to come with you?"
Rory sighed, "I... I don't know."
"How about I drive you and sit out in the car while you talk with your mom and then I'll be your get away car when it gets too much." Logan suggested.
Rory looked at him with a big smile, "You're the best, you know that?"
"I know." Logan smirked.
Rory kissed him, but before Logan could deepen the kiss she pulled away. He groaned. She giggled.
"Come on. We have a problem to solve." She grabbed a hold of his hand and led him to the door.
"Let's do this Nancy Drew." He said grabbing the keys to his car.
She laughed as they made their way to the elevator.
