Nothing can describe this pain of feeling beaten, feeling alone and knowing Lucian could do nothing to escape.
Until today.
There he sat in his cell, wrapped in chains against the wall. Normally chaining him up would be useless, but these chains are made especially for Lucian. They block his abilities, and the certain abilities that he has are what would have helped him to escape this horrible place. He looked around the cell. Nothing but stone and iron bars, the smell of rats and chemicals filling the area. For the first time he felt weak and useless, the iron collar around his neck cold. Other cells surrounded him, filled with prisoners just like him: alone, with special abilities that no one in this world would accept. If they even managed to escape, they wouldn’t be accepted by them ― the “normal” people. They would just put these poor creatures back into their cells, experiment them until they drop dead. The worst thing? Is that they try to convince them that this is home, this horrible place.
The horrible place he’s in?
The FCI: Fused Concoctions Incorporated. A place that experiments on Hybrids, or as they call them ― freaks.
Lucian heard footsteps, and he saw a guard walking in front of his cell. The guard ― a heavily armored guy with a whip that can catch on fire ― smirked at him.
“Alright Experiment 666,” said the guard, “Show time.”
They never call Lucian by his real name: it’s always Experiment 666.
The guard grabbed him by the chains and activated Lucian’s collar as the chains fell to the ground. Now Lucian can only do his powers during the Presentation: were they would show off his abilities and sell him to the highest bidder in the Black Market.
Lucian got “escorted” to the arena of the building. It’s like a big coliseum, filled with professional business men and woman. The arena is outside, taunting Lucian as they knew he couldn’t escape. The people watched as Lucian walked to the platform, the big screen flickering up above. The leader of the organization appeared on the screen: just his silhouette, not showing his actually self; which is fine for Lucian. He didn’t want to see his stupid face again.
“Greetings,” said the voice on the speakers, “I will be your host of this annual event. I assure you, this will not disappoint, for we have a weapon that will advance any army, any Nation! I present you: Experiment 666.”
Bright lights shinned at Lucian’s face, causing him to shield his eyes.
The collar activated, and he gritted his teeth as it shocked Lucian. It’s time to start using his powers.
“This weapon is the very link of the dead and the living,” said the voice, which sounds like bricks being scrapped by a knife, “Not only can it talk to spirits and the dead, but it has spirit abilities as well. We will now demonstrate what Experiment 666 can do.”
Humanoid machines appeared from the ground, surrounding Lucian. The machines are basically human shaped, and look like a mix of blue and silver, with glowing red eyes. One held out its hand, and the hand morphed into a blowtorch and blasted fire at Lucian. Instead of dodging, Lucian’s body vanished as he turned invisible. An explosion hit behind him from the flames, smoke filling the air. When it cleared, Lucian appeared visible again, unharmed from the blast. Another machine tried to grab him, but Lucian dodged and kicked at the machine’s chest. Three machines tried to tackle him at once. Lucian concentrated as his body turned intangible. Once he did, the machines that went through him short-circuited and exploded in sparks. He felt pretty good about himself, until one grabbed him by the shoulder and started to choke him, wrapping its mechanical arm around his neck.
The people on the bleachers cheered. They actually like watching Lucian experience pain, whether they’re planning to use him as a weapon or not. Rage built up inside Lucian, and he made a screeching sound that sounds like a million banshees screaming at once. The people covered their ears, and the machines malfunctioned until they collapsed, their red eyes flickering until they turned off.
Just as the iron collar is about to shock him, Lucian grabbed it and began to pull. It shocked him painfully, but he kept at it.
“It’s trying to escape!” cried the booming voice, “Guards, stop Experiment 666!”
As the guards tried to approach, Lucian made a motion with his hands as he pushed them together. Immediately, darkness filled the area, confusing the guards as they couldn’t see. Still shocking Lucian, he turned his hand invisible and fazed it in the circuits of the collar. The collar immediately short circuited and fell off, splitting into two as it crashed into the ground. Lucian then took off into the sky, a guard turning on the dome – which is design to prevent the flying Hybrids from escaping. It took to slowly too fully appear as the blue light climbed its way to the top. Just before as it completed, Lucian managed to fly threw the small hole of the shield, before it completely turned on.
Laughter escaped Lucian’s lips as he tasted his freedom, he can now find what he’s been looking for:
The Hybrid Organization: the only safe place in Corelia for monsters like him.
