“The Hybrid Organization?” asked Lucian, “You mean . . . I made it?”
Professor Pearce smiled, “Of course you did. Our Seeker sensed two Hybrids using their abilities, so I sent Cavian and Logan to find you and your friend.”
“Me and Skyler aren’t really friends,” mumbled Lucian.
Professor Pearce shrugged, “Well, whatever the case, when they brought you in you were terrible injured. So we got you to the Infirmary and patched you right up. How are you feeling?”
“Like I just got beat up by a pack of Rhinos,” said Lucian, “Other than that, I’m good.” Professor Pearce chuckled, “The medicine should fully heal you in a couple of hours.”
“So what happens now?” asked Lucian.
“Now I will assign someone to give you a tour,” said Professor Pearce, “Skyler is already on a tour with Logan. As for your tour guide ―” the door suddenly creaked open, “Ah, here he is now.”
Lucian looked. He’s about a couple years older than Lucian, maybe like eighteen. He has blonde hair and pale blue eyes, wearing a black jacket with the same symbol that the Professor wears on his jacket. The guy is also wearing some kind of cowboy-ish style boots and jeans.
“This is my son,” explained Professor Pearce, “and he’s also my apprentice.”
“Sup,” he said, “My name is Jay.”
“Lucian,” replied Lucian. They shook hands. “What’s your last name?” asked Jay. Jay didn’t expect it, but Lucian tensed a little bit when he asked the question. “Um . . .,” said Lucian, “I rather not say.”
Jay blinked, “But―”
“It’s alright Jay,” said Professor Pearce, “If the boy doesn’t wish to share it, then he won’t share it. Now, why don’t you show him around Jay?”
“Sure Dad,” said Jay, “Come on Lucian.”
“Uh,” said Lucian, “Can I put a shirt on first?” Jay laughed, “Yeah. That might help. There’s a clean set of clothes in the chest. I’ll wait outside the door.” Lucian nodded, Professor Pearce and Jay leaving the room. Once the door closed, Lucian got up and opened the chest. He got the clothes out and put them on.
Lucian is now wearing a clean pair of jeans and a black t-shirt. Just like the other clothes Jay and the Professor is wearing, this shirt has a gryphon in front of a shield. Lucian figured that this is the Hybrid Organization’s symbol. That, and the fact that it says Hybrid Organization on the bottom of the symbol. He also found that they fixed up his black jacket. He quickly checked his pocket and was relieved to find that the object was still there. Lucian pulled it out and held it in his palm. It’s an emerald stone in the shape of an octagon. A gift from his parents, before they died . . .
Lucian shook the memory out of his head. No. He will not go down into the memory, no matter how painful it is. Lucian is a survivor, not a crier. He made a mistake, and he’ll fix that by doing something right. He put the emerald back in his pocket. Lucian then went to the door and open it, Jay waiting for him. “Ready to do this?” he asked. Lucian nodded, “So which building is this?”
“This is the Sanctuary,” said Jay, “It’s basically a building filled with dorms, which explains all the doors.”
Lucian looked around, and saw that he’s right. There’s a ton of doors from left to right, all numbered. “How many are there?” asked Lucian.
