For the next week, Jay and Lucian have been training nonstop. They’ve moved from hand-to-hand to sword fighting, making Lucian wearing a set of armor. They both agreed not to use the host armor, for that just makes Lucian go crazier than usual.

“Don’t worry, I promise we’ll get to controlling Kalicus’s armor soon,” Jay has explained, “We just can’t risk it right now.” He then grumbled to himself, “We’ll see who the better trainer is. Alastair will think twice before messing with me.”

He then ordered Lucian to strike again with his emerald sword. Breathing heavily, Lucian did. They exchanged a few parries and attacks, until Jay managed to disarm Lucian. Lucian’s sword skittered across the arena.

“Jay, you’re killing me,” complained Lucian, “I really need a break.”

“Lucian, the FCI won’t let you have time to get a break!” barked Jay, “Now come on. Strike at me again, like you mean it!”

Lucian groaned and struck again. Finally it was eleven o’clock and everyone was sent to bed. When Lucian walked back to his dorm, his whole body ached. He stretched as he popped his back when he was at the lobby of the Male Dorms.

Cavian chuckled next to him, “Long week?”

“Yes, of Jay training me to death,” said Lucian, rolling his shoulder. Cavian shrugged, “He’s just trying to prepare you for when you get caught in a battle. It’s a Trainer’s job.”

“I have a feeling it’s more on the line from what Alastair said to him a week ago,” said Lucian, “About Alastair wanting to train me. I mean, the guy hates my guts the first time we met. Then I defeated Logan in our battle, and suddenly he wants nothing more than to let me join the Organization.”

“So what?” asked Cavian, “You think Alastair wants you for your powers or something?”

Lucian shrugged, “Wouldn’t be the first time. It seems that people are either afraid of me or want to use me for my powers. It’s hard to trust people based on those statements.”

There was a slight pause until Cavian looked at Lucian. “Hey, you do have people to trust, alright? Me, Jay, Mikayla, the Professor ― even Bonny. Believe it or not, you have friends here. Never doubt otherwise.”

“Thanks man,” Lucian said, “I don’t think I recall you ever being serious.”

“I’m serious when it comes to saving people,” replied Cavian, “And also― I’m serious about friendship. Now get going to bed! Even the bags under your eyes have bags. What, are your eyes trying to buy the entire market or something?”

Lucian laughed. The two Hybrids exchanged their goodnights and headed for the Teleporter, the other Hybrids acting nervous as Lucian walked by. He just ignored them as he teleported to his floor. Lucian walked passed the dorms and headed for bed in his room. Yawning, he went to bed.

The next morning, Lucian sat at a table in the café, eating his scrambled eggs alone. In the back of the café is Alastair, watching Lucian’s every movement without him knowing about Alastair’s presence. He watched as Logan and his two trouble makers walked towards Lucian’s back.

Logan smiled as he waved his hand. Just as a forkful of scrambled eggs was about to enter Lucian’s mouth, sparks of electricity appeared at the tips of his fork. It fried his scrambled eggs as Lucian winced, dropping the fork onto the plate. He gritted his teeth when he heard Logan’s laughter behind him, Crash and Kurt joining in.

“Aww, did little Lucy didn’t like his scrambled eggs?” taunted Logan. Lucian just sat there as he tried to restrain himself. He can feel his body temperature heating up, and he tried hard not to panic. Just one slight wrong move could get Lucian into serious trouble. He needs to keep his powers under control.

“Hmm,” Logan continued, “perhaps Lucy would like it better in his hood.”

“Exactly my thought,” said Kurt. He grabbed a handful of Lucian’s scrambled eggs and shoved it in Lucian’s hoodie.

The three Hybrids laughed at Lucian’s expression: a mix of surprise, anger, and murderous. Definitely murderous. He sprang up from his chair so fast that it toppled over as Lucian started to grab Kurt by the shirt.

“Hey! Get off of me!” demanded Kurt. Logan tried to get Lucian off of Kurt, but Lucian pushed him aside to the floor. Alastair grinned as Lucian’s dark energy appeared on his skin, Kurt’s eyes widened in terror. The other Hybrids and Trainers seemed to be too scared to interfere, for they just minded their own business and didn’t say anything. That’s when Mikayla took a first glance and ran over to the commotion.

“Lucian, don’t!” said Mikayla. Her voice snapped Lucian out of his trance, and he let go of Kurt. Kurt just growled at Lucian, “You saw what I saw right? He tried to kill me just then!”

Lucian just stood there, biting his lower lip. Even if the guy started the fight, what Kurt said was true ― Lucian was about to kill someone. Again. However, instead of taking Kurt’s side, Mikayla just studied the back of Lucian’s jacket and saw crumbly pieces of scrambled eggs stuck to the fabric. She then glanced at Kurt’s right hand, which is also covered with pieces of scrambled eggs.

“From what I see,” observed Mikayla, “Is you doing another round of bullying, and Lucian was just trying to defend himself. Correct?”

Kurt smirked, “Please, why would I―”

“Go back to your breakfast Kurt,” glared Mikayla, “Same for you two.”

“You can’t tell me what to do,” growled Logan, “You’re just a Basic Hybrid.” Mikayla smirked, “As I recall, a Basic Hybrid kicked your butt last week.”

Logan took a few moments to process, then said, “That little punk! Skyler is so dead.”

“Go away Logan,” ordered Mikayla, “Now.”

Logan grumbled, “Fine.” He and his two buddies left, Lucian whistling, “Impressive. How did you managed that?” Mikayla just grinned, “I have my ways with communication. You okay?”

“Yeah,” said Lucian, “Thanks. You didn’t have to stick up for me though.”

Mikayla rolled her eyes, “Such a cliché line. Of course I had to. We’re friends.” She looked at him, “So, shouldn’t you be training with Jay?”

Lucian coughed, “Ah, I kind of ditched him . . .”

     “Lucian,” sighed Mikayla.

“Hey! The guy was training me so bad my body was burning,” said Lucian, “Literately. Since, I accidently caught myself on fire the other day in training . . .”

Mikayla laughed, “Well, since you now smell like scrambled eggs and aren’t doing anything, how about I teach you horse riding?”

“Why would I need to learn how to ride a horse?” asked Lucian, “I can move faster when I fly.” Suddenly he heard Jay calling out for Lucian behind him, and Lucian saw Jay at the entrance of the café. Lucian turned invisible so he couldn’t be seen and said to Mikayla, “Meet you in a few minutes.”

Mikayla smiled with approval. Boys. So predictable.
