-A Month Later-
"Jessie can you come here please!" I yell to my roommate. I decided to go to Boston University for photography and thanks to my amazing father, he paid for my whole stay here on campus. "Hey, why aren't you ready? Joshua's party is in an hour." Jessie says, holding her clutch purse. "Jess, I would love to go but I have a whole bunch of studying to do," I tell her, motioning to the pile of books on my desk. "Oh heck to the no, you are coming to this party Maisie," Jessie says, dragging me from the desk chair. "Jessie I have the stuff to do!" I say as she pulls me into my closet, looking through my clothes.
She finds a blue dress and pairs it with some black flats. "God, your closet looks like my grandma went shopping for you," Jessie says, shoving me into the bathroom so I can change. She closes the door and I sigh, setting my dress on the counter. I haven't been to a party since college started, I've been too caught up in working at the cafe and practicing my photography. I change into the blue dress that Jessie picked for me and I throw on the shoes as well. Walking out of the bathroom, Jessie squeals in excitement at my finished look.
"You look great! Now you just need some eyeshadow and lipstick and you'll be good to go!" Jessie says, walking to her makeup drawer beside her bed. She pulls out some eyeshadow and dark colored lipstick. "Are we going to an Evanescence concert?" I ask, looking at the dark-colored makeup she has chosen for me. "No, but I don't want you looking like a drag queen tonight." She says, applying the eyeshadow lightly to my eyelids and applying the lipstick to my lips. "I haven't worn makeup in a while." I chuckle to myself. Jessie looks at me, "Maisie. Is this what I think it's about?" She sits beside me, closing the eyeshadow palette. "What do you think it's about?" I ask, hoping she won't talk about Kara. "Breaking up with Lee?" Jessie says.
Thank you, Lord. "Yes! Of course, this is what it's about. We just haven't talked in a while." I say, standing from my spot on the chair. Jessie nods, standing in front of me. She sets her hands on my shoulders and smiles at me, "Maisie just knows that Lee wasn't worth it." She tells me before walking to her bed to grab her purse. "Now can we please go? I'm not gonna be late because of you." Jessie says to me. "Fine," I say. Jessie jumps in excitement and yanks me out the door of our room. We run down the hallway and hop into the elevator as Jessie presses the 'lobby' button.
We eventually get down into the lobby, Jessie rushing to get out the front doors. She shoves them open and drags me to the car where she stuffs me into the passenger seat. "Jeez Jessie, no need to be in such a rush." The only reason she wants me to go with her to the party is so she can get a good look at Laiken Meyers. Jessie has been talking about him since I started school in Boston. I've never met him thank god, he sounds like a jackass.
"Well, I am in a hurry so get over it, Maisie." She says to me, starting the car. I roll my eyes at her as she starts driving in the direction of Joshua's house. Jessie taps her hands on the steering wheel as she pulls into his driveway. "Do you think Laiken will be here?" She asks ms, parking the car. "Oh good lord, you still haven't talked to him yet?" I ask her. She shakes her head, her face turning pink. "You did didn't you?" I ask, sitting up in my seat. "Well I mean we didn't really talk, I texted him though." She says, covering her face with her hands.
"Jessie! That's great!" I say, giving her a large hug. "Is it great? I feel all weird for texting him, he doesn't even know I exist." She says, flopping her hands in her lap. "Well if he responded to you then you'll be fine," I say to her, jumping out of the car. I slam my door closed, fixing the bottom of my dress Jessie put me in. "Would you stop playing with your dress? You look fine." Jessie says to me, smacking my hand away. I glare at her before knocking on the front door. "Eyyyy!! Jessie my girl!" Joshua answers the door with a smile, kissing Jessie on the cheek.
He does the same for me and guides us inside. Jessie and I walk around the house, having to push our way through crowds of people. Jessie manages to get me to the kitchen before she gasps, "Maisie Laiken is here." She says, hitting my shoulder. I smack her hands away, rubbing my shoulder in pain. "Jesus, go talk to him then," I tell her, sitting down on the nearest chair. I watch as Jessie takes a deep breath and starts to walk over to where Laiken is standing. Laiken stopped his conversation with a girl and focused his attention on Jessie.
The girl Laiken was previously talking to scoffs and walks away. Laiken takes a swig from his drink and laughs to what Jessie must've said. She turns around and gives me a thumbs up. I do the same and chuckle at how she immediately turns around so I wouldn't be spotted. "Maisie?" I hear a voice behind me ask. I turn and see Lee standing behind me. "Lee?"
