Yesterday night seemed easy for me, having a conversation with silence wasn't but, feeling like Kara was there and listening to my problems was nice. I sigh, standing from my bed as I hear a knock at the door. I walk to the door and open it, revealing Lee. "What do you want?" I ask, crossing my arms"Can I come in? I have some news to tell you." Lee says, looking around the outside of the house. I eye him weirdly before letting him step inside. "What's going on Lee?" I ask, closing the door and locking it. "Jessie's coming home, she says that she needs to see you," Lee tells me, sitting down on the couch. I roll my eyes, sitting beside him. "I don't understand why she can't get it through her head that I don't want to see her," I say, looking at the ceiling.
"Maisie, she needs to see you it's important," Lee says, making me look at him. I look at him and meet his eyes before he leans in and plants a kiss on my lips. He wraps his hands around my waist and pulls me over to him. I pull away when I hear a knock at the door. I sigh and stand up, walking to the door where I am greeted with the presence of Jessie. "Maisie?" She asks. It's probably hard to recognize me since I cut and dyed my hair.
I pull her into a large hug and she cries into my shoulder. I pull away and notice a baby carriage she's holding in her hand. "Who's this?" I ask, motioning to the baby who is smiling at me. "My son, Ash." She says, setting him down and picking him up out of the carriage. "Let's just say I got a little too drunk one night." Jessie laughs. I take Ash from her arms and hold him as he smiles lightly.
"He's beautiful isn't he?" Jessie asks, taking him back. Lee walks over and wraps his arms around my waist. "I see you two are on good terms," Jessie says, walking past us and into the kitchen. I look up at Lee and he plants a kiss on my lips before walking into the kitchen with Jessie. I follow behind him and sit down at one of the stools.
"I'm sorry for showing up so randomly, I just couldn't go on knowing that my best friend needed me," Jessie says, smiling at me. I roll my eyes without her seeing and I turn back. "So, how have you been Maisie?" She asks, bouncing Ash in her arms. "I've been fine, thinking about moving out," I tell her, resting my arms on the counter.
She nods, giving Ash a small bottle. "That's good, you need to get out of this place sooner or later." She says, eyeing the house with a disgusted look on her face. "What's your house look like Jessie?" I snap, raising an eyebrow at her. "Maisie stop," Lee says, resting a hand on my arm. "No, you don't like mine so I would love to hear about yours," I say, looking at her intently.
"It's large, nice, and suitable for my son." She says, glaring at me. I nod, faking a smile. "Of course it is," I say, sighing. "You got a problem with how I live my life, Maisie?" She asks, sounding irritated. "No no, of course not Jessie. I'm just curious as to how you live as a single mother with an attitude like yours." I snap, narrowing my eyes at her. She scoffs, setting Ash back down in his baby carriage.
Jessie looks to Lee, "thanks for letting me visit." Jessie turns to me and glares before walking out the front door. "Maisie, what the fuck?" Lee asks me, throwing his arms up. I shake my head, "you're taking her side now?" I turn to him, raising an eyebrow. "Woah! I'm not on anyone's side here." He says, putting his hands up in surrender. "Forget it, I'm done with her," I say, standing from the stool.
I start walking to my room before Lee stops me. "Maisie, you need to make things right." He tells me, concern in his eyes. "No, I'm sorry Lee but I don't." I shrug, walking to my room and closing the door. Locking it. I sigh, sitting down on my bed before pulling out my phone. I see no new notifications so I just set it back down beside me. "Make things right blah blah," I say, mocking Lee.
I shake my head crawling to my pillows before covering up with my blankets. I stare at my window, laying quietly in bed while waiting for night time to come around. I close my eyes and eventually drift off into a calm sleep. "Maisie?" I hear Lee's voice say from outside my door. I flutter my eyes open, looking to my clock. "Lee, it's eleven at night," I say, stretching and yawning.
"You've been sleeping all day, now get your butt out of bed." He says from outside the door. I groan, throwing the blankets off me before standing and walking to my door to unlock it. I stop myself from letting him inside my room and instead I just walk to my closet. I find a change of clothes and throw them on, grabbing my bag and filling it with a few things along with my chargers.
"Sorry Lee, can't come to the phone right now," I say, walking to my open window before climbing out onto a tree branch. I eventually make my way down, sprinting across the backyard and down the sidewalk. I know if he sees me running I'll be screwed since he was in football for two years. I throw my hood up and start walking, trying not to draw attention to myself.
I continue walking until I reach a small café. I walk in, taking my hood off and looking for an open seat which isn't hard since nobody is here. "Evening, can I get you something?" The girl at the counter asks me. "No I'm okay but thanks," I say, walking to an open booth. I pull out my phone and see five missed calls from Lee. I shake my head, turning my phone off and shoving it back into my pocket.
"Actually, can I get a coffee to go?" I ask, smiling at the girl.
