Sigh. Lee and I have been sitting at the restaurant for thirty minutes now and all he's been doing is talking about how great his job is. I'm not a fan of guys who are like this. "So, I told Mark that he can leave and he did!" Lee says, laughing. I fake a laugh, looking around the restaurant before my eyes shift back to a familiar face sitting in the back corner with a woman."Maisie, everything okay?" Lee asks me. My eyes stay peeled on him to make sure it's the right person I think it is. When the waiter moves I can finally see his face. Trystan is alive. My breath hitches in my throat. I guess Lee follows my gaze since he is gathering up his stuff and mine. Trystan and I lock eyes before Lee pulls me out of the booth and to the door.
Once we get outside, Lee stops at his car with me when we hear the doors slam closed. "Well, I never expected to see two familiar faces again," Trystan says, grinning at us. "What the hell do you want killer?" I snap, glaring at him. He laughs, "Maisie, is that any way to talk to a friend?" Trystan steps forward. "You're not a friend." Lee snaps.
"Tsk tsk, I would disagree but I don't want to make a scene in front of my wife and kids." He tells us, smirking while holding up a wedding ring on his finger. "You want a scene? I'll make a damn scene!" I yell at him, walking and getting in his face. I raise my arm to slap him but I stop myself when a woman and children walkout.
Trystan leans down and whispers in my ear, "I don't want to hurt you like I did Kara but if I really have to I will." He threatens. I start walking back to Lee's car before stopping and turning around. "Hey! You're this guy's wife right?" I ask the woman. She nods, raising an eyebrow as a 'why?' I smirk, "well in case you thought this guy was cute, he murdered my best friend eight years ago." I tell her, stepping into Lee's car.
I watch the woman start asking Trystan multiple questions before walking to a car with him and his children. Lee pulls out of the parking lot and drives me home. "I'm sorry about tonight," Lee says, parking in my driveway. I don't say anything but instead, I get out of his car and walk to the front door. "Hey, Maisie, look at me," Lee says, stopping me from going inside. I look up at him, seeing his face look sincere.
I kiss him softly, "can you stay with me?" Lee nods, following me inside. I set my bag down on the counter and walk to my room, slipping my boots off in the process. When I get into my room, I sit on my bed and sigh. I feel Lee sit beside me and set a hand on my back. "I didn't know he was alive.." Lee mumbles. I shake my head, "he doesn't deserve to be alive is what you should be saying."
"Cmon Maisie, don't say that about someone," Lee says, resting his hand on my shoulder. "Lee! He killed my best friend and got away with it! You think that I am going to be calm?" I yell, standing off the bed. "Maisie, I'm sorry about Kara and I'm sorry that Trystan is alive but, he's got kids and a wife." Lee reminds me.
I fold my arms over my chest, "Lee, remind me again why I bother to listen to you." Lee looks taken aback at the sentence I say to him. "Oh I don't know, maybe because I'm your boyfriend." He says to me, standing up. "I'm sick of hearing you talk about yourself all the time, did you not hear yourself at dinner? Everything was about you." I tell him, making him scoff.
"Oh please, you asked how I was doing so I told you!" He snaps at me. "Bullshit, all you ever care about is bragging how great your life is," I say, glaring at him. "Well, I'm sorry that you're depressed and too scared to go see a damn therapist." He says, shrugging. "Get the fuck out of my house." I snap at him, shoving him out of my room.
"If you push me out of this house, we're done!" He yells at the front door. I walk up to him, "good!" I slam the door in his face and lock it, walking back to my room. Closing the door, I sit down on my bed and sigh. "Kara, why do men have to be so annoying?" I ask the silence surrounding me. "Maybe I should just move to Paris," I say. "Find a beautiful house and live there for the rest of my life," I say again, silence following my sentences.
I huff, "that's what I'll do."
