Chapter 24: To You, in 2000 Years

The carriage bumped around as the wheels ran over the cobblestone. My head couldn't rest comfortably as it would hit the seat at every bump. I felt like I was overheating. My body was slick with a thin layer of sweat. I couldn't sit still, I moved around trying to find comfort all the while groaning in pain. I just wanted this long ass car journey to be over.

I must have looked like shit. My skin should have turned an unpleasant translucent white after having lost so much blood by now. I could feel it. I also had a fever. I was shivering even though I felt hot. Was this my body's last ditch effort at keeping me alive?

'Y-You need t-to take me to a h-hospital...' I stuttered and shivered. They have orders to make sure I stay alive so... maybe they'll help me.

'..Hey...' My voice was a coarse whisper. Pain banged at my head like an angry man trying to get through a door. I coughed, the taste of metallic blood filled my mouth.

'Hey... I need to get to a h-hospital...' I repeated, this time no thought went into my words. I needed to repeat something to soothe myself.

It's ironic that Bailey made sure I would be taken care of...

I took her life...

Although... maybe she's okay... maybe those men saved her...

But I'll die never knowing at this rate.

I need to find a way to tell Erwin about the informant... if I don't manage to get out of here.

Come to think of it...

What if Levi is the informant? He comes from the underground, he knew about the company, he even brought me here today. Maybe that's the reason he wanted to get with me in the first place...

No... he wouldn't do that right?

Where is he?

Maybe he went to a cafe with Axel and they're drinking and talking about how easy it is to trick me.

The only suspects I have are Sarah and Levi... who else could possibly know about us?

I rested my head down on the unsteady seat and rested my gaze on the rooftops outside as they rushed by.

Levi's POV

'Hold this for a second.' Axel held out his hip flask. I gave him the most disapproving look I could muster before snatching it out of his hands. For some reason he thought now would be a nice time to rearrange his bag. He had bought a lot at the markets today.

'I'd be weary of her, that Horacio chick the most cunning woman I've ever heard of...'
'You better wish your girlfriend luck. This mansion looks so big, I hope she hasn't gotten lost... how long has she been in there now? Something like 45 minutes? Must be one hell of a business deal... let's go back to the river, maybe by the time we come back she'll be out. Or dead. Who knows...'

'Do you ever shut up?' I snapped. Axel is the biggest weasel I've ever met and by far the most annoying. He just doesn't know how to stop running his shitty mouth. I could tell he was getting restless like a child waiting here.

I couldn't deny he was getting me pissed off, which made me even more worried about Alyssa. I didn't know how long was an appropriate amount of time to wait before going inside.

I was just getting myself worried. Maybe that Horacio girl is her sister and that's why she's taking so long and they're just catching up.
