I woke up with my alarm clock ringing for what could have been the tenth time, making me realize I was late. I grabbed the black dress I would wear whenever I was in a rush and sprinted to the kitchen.
My dad had already left, but he had made some coffee before going so I just grabbed one of my old Starbucks cups that i had saved (me and my friends had a weird tradition of asking for a different name every time and collect it) and placed it inside. I was planning to drink it on the way to work, even though I have a coffee machine there, but nothing beats homemade coffee.
I ran to the elevator, which was almost closing, when somebody held the door for me.
"Thank you, Mr. Irwin." I smiled.
"No problem, sweetheart. Why are you late, anyway?" He asked.
"I fell asleep and almost got a speeding ticket when I was trying to arrive as soon as possible." I explained.
"Tough luck. Maybe someone has to punish you for not waking up on time. Too bad I'm not your boss." Ashton smirked, leaving the elevator.
I was confused about what had just happened but I still needed to rush to get to work, so I speed up my pace and mumble a quick "hello" to Mary and Luke before I get to my office.
"You're late, Miss Stevenson." My boss said when I opened the door and found her inside.
"I know, Mrs. Brown. I'm really sorry. I promise it won't happen again." I apologized.
"I'll let it slip this once, but if anybody ever tells me that you're late again, we will need to have a talk." She gave me her usual stern look before continuing, "Anyway, I was here to congratulate you on your work. Mr. Longblanc called me and he couldn't stop saying nice things about you. You see, this task was actually a test to see if you could make it on your own. And since you did wonderfully, you are getting a promotion. This will imply that you travel to Europe at least once a month, and that you'll have a two page article on our monthly magazine. If you haven't figured it out yet, you are going to be working as a fulltime writer and my personal assistant."
"I can't thank you enough for giving me this opportunity, Mrs Brown. I promise I won't disappoint you."
"Good. Because your first trip is next week. You are going with me to Rome on Monday and we are staying until Friday afternoon. The details will be emailed to you. This week, I'll let you carry on your usual work but I expect you to have packed your items by Thursday afternoon, so we can change you into your new office. I just stopped by to tell you this, so if you need anything from me, just call me." She said, while leaving my office.
I was really happy about my new promotion, I can't say I was expecting it but I also can't say that I haven't worked for it.
Lunch time arrived and I wouldn't have even been aware of it if it wasn't for Mary to knock on my office door.
"Are you coming?" She asked, opening the door completely, to reveal Luke next to her.
"Yes, I was just finishing. I'm sorry I left you waiting for me, I lost track of time." I apologized.
"It's fine, Lilo. Word around the company is, you are becoming a hotshot full time writer and that you are going to leave your two best friends."
"The first part is true, but I would never leave you guys. I'll just be right around the corner, or in Europe, but we'll talk more about this is the cafeteria." I said.
The cafeteria, unfortunately, was closed because of some sort of accident (we didn't bother to ask, since it happened almost once a month and they would always gave us the same excuse). So we decided to eat lunch at a restaurant nearby.
