Michael hadn't found a place for Abby to play, so instead he'd spent the better part of the afternoon creating something. He'd found a nice wood fenced yard with high fences, and dragged random toys from other yards into the one he'd found. I don't know how he did it alone, but he'd even managed to find a swing set and bring that into the yard.
He told Abby all about it as we settled down for dinner and promised that the following day she would finally be allowed to play in the snow.
Michael left Abby to play with her monster trucks with Adam, and walked over to join where Clarke, Sam, and I all sat. We hadn't been talking so much as watching Abby play.
"So I saw some zombie tracks while I was out, but not a lot. I wonder if they don't like the cold," Michael said as he sat down in one of the folding chairs we'd found.
Sam shrugged, rubbing his hands together as he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, "we wondered the same thing with Kodi and her zombie from the shed. We also might just be lucky to have found a ghost town."Michael made a face, "I don't want to let our guard down just because there hasn't been anything to fight lately."
Sam nodded like he agreed, "I kind of want to move fort to a house, something smaller than this church. It's not a very big church but it is getting a little old, checking all of the different areas."
"We could barricade the areas we don't use," I countered, "the others will eventually be back and then we'll be cramped in a house, unless we found a house big enough and then it will be the same problem. Plus, we haven't found any houses with a generator."
"I figured. It would have just been nice to sleep on something other than the floor," Sam said.
"We could always go out tomorrow, or the next day, and get mattresses. It wouldn't be too hard, and it would give us something to do while we wait on the others to return."
Clarke cleared her throat, "I think we could get some mattresses in here, no problem. Where is the house you set up for Abby to play at?"
Michael shifted in his seat, "It's not too far from here. I just liked the fence a lot, plus they have a balcony that overlooks the backyard and over the fence. It's easy to defend. I could watch her on my own."
"No way, she's going to want to play with someone. We can split up, some of us going with you and Abby, and the rest getting mattresses. Right?" I asked, looking around.
Clarke nodded, "We shouldn't leave the church without anyone here to watch our stuff. Maybe it would be easier to do these things separately. Like let Abby play in the morning, and when she's cold and tired she can come back and some of us can go out for the beds."
Leo padded over and placed his massive head in Sam's lap. He huffed as he did so, and Sam started to pet him. "That sounds like a plan. We should also go through the stuff we've gathered so far and sort it out."
"Are you guys having a big kids meeting without us?" Adam walked over, Abby holding his hand.
"Just talking about how to get Abby out to play tomorrow. Do you want to come play or would you want to stay at the church and hold down the fort?" Sam asked.
"Well," Adam scratched his head with his free hand, "Who's going? How many people need to stay at the church?"
"I'd say only two need to stay at the church, just to give back up. Then the other two can come with to go play in the snow and help guard Abby."
"What do you think, Abby? Do you want me to come with to go play in the snow tomorrow?"
Abby grinned, "Yes! We can bring our monster trucks, and dolls, and the green monster truck with the big tires. Can we make snow angels? Are we going tonight?"
