Ruby and Iain // Baby

Ruby walked downstairs to Iain sitting in the kitchen she wasn't feeling too great. "Morning" he smiled "morning," she said reaching for some paracetamol and a glass of water. Ruby and Iain were intimate now they had slept together a few times including when they had had a drink. "Iain," she said sitting down at the table. "mm" he smiled holding her hands " I'm late," she said, "late?" he asked "I was due a week ago and I'm late," she said "oh ruby," he said "you don't think your?" he asked " I don't know," she said "why don't we walk down the pharmacy we have a couple of hours before we start work," he said she nodded and they finished their breakfast and headed out to the shops. They walked into the pharmacy and walked over to the self picking up a pregnancy test Ruby looked at it in her hands and took a deep breath "it's alright" he smiled she smiled back at him "Do you want kids?" She asked he nodded "but when your ready" he smiled "I will support you whatever the outcome and whatever you decide" he smiled kissing her head she smiled tears in her eyes "now, wipe those tears away and we can go home" he smiled she nodded and smiled walking over to the counter with Iain she put it on the counter and the lady smiled "exciting isn't it?" She smiled Ruby swallowed "I guess so" she said "sorry I didn't mean to..." she said "honestly it's fine, I'm just not sure how I feel about this all" she smiled Iain held her hand "that's £12 please" she smiled Iain passed her the money and ruby smiled at him and put it in her bag as they walked home hand in hand. "Do you want to do it now?" He asked she nodded slowly "it's all I'll think about my whole shift if I don't" she said he nodded "look at me" he said she looked up at him "it's going to be okay" he said she nodded and took a deep breath walking into the bathroom with the box. She did the test and walked back out again and sat at the table, she passed it to Iain who sat opposite her "you look" she said "it's still processing" he said she nodded and sat staring at the test in his hands it made a little noise and popped up in clear "POSITIVE" Iain nodded and then looked at Ruby "positive" he said she nodded and took a deep breath "what are you thinking Rubes?" He asked "that I'm going to be a mum and your going to be a dad and we're going to be the best parents we possibly can" she smiled Iain smiled at her "it's all happened a little quicker than I thought it was going to but it's the best mistake I've ever made" she smiled standing up with Iain he wrapped his arms around her "we're going to have a baby" he smiled she nodded "we are" she said smiling. "Come on you, let's get to work" he smiled she nodded and they walked out to the car and got in to go to work. They pulled up at the station and got out of the car walking to get changed "hi" smiled Jan "hey" said ruby "you two seem happy" she smiled Ruby nodded "just having a good day" she smiled Jan nodded suspiciously and walked off. They got changed and got in the ambulance and started their shift. After 6 hours they stopped at McDonald's for some lunch "what shall we get?" He smiled "I'm um not that hungry, just a coffee?" She smiled "decaf" she added "you've got to eat something we've not had anything for 6 hours" he said she nodded "I know but I just don't feel the best" she said he pulled her into his side "what about a burger but just a plain one?" He asked she nodded "just a 99p one is fine" she said he nodded and ordered and then they sat down and ate "we can eat here can't we? We have another 10 minutes of our break" he said she nodded "yeah" she smiled sitting down next to him she opened her coffee and went to take a sip and a sudden wave of sickness came over her she got up and ran to the bathroom locking herself in a cubicle and throwing up her guts. "Oh Ruby" he said to himself standing up he walked to the toilets and knocked on the door he didn't think she could hear him he couldn't go into the ladies he walked out and spoke to a member of staff "hiya, sorry to be a pain but my partner she's pregnant and she's throwing up in the toilets I just wondered if I could pop in and grab her?" He asked she nodded "yeah of course let me put an out of order sign on the door and I'll get someone to come and clear up" she smiled "Thank you" he said walking in. He could see her boots and the door slightly open he pushed it open to see her crying next to the toilet "come on" he said helping her up "done?" He asked sympathetically she nodded "I think so" she said he smiled and kissed her head "let me buzz through to Jan get a few extra minutes" he said she nodded wiping her mouth and washing her hands a lady walked in "which one is it?" She asked "I didn't get it anywhere it's alright" Said Ruby she smiled and nodded "wasn't the food was it?" She asked "no, no of course not" she smiled "it's just if you have a bug I'll have to shut these off" she said "I don't, I'm pregnant" she said quietly the lady smiled "ah congrats!" She smiled Iain smiled at Ruby "thank you and sorry" she said "no worries" said the woman walking out.
