Going home

Iain walked into Ruby's room and smiled at her "ready to go home?" He asked she nodded "definitely" she smiled he grabbed her things and passed her some clothes. She sat up and swung her legs over the side of the bed gently "do you want some help?" He asked she shook her head "I'm not an invalid" she smiled he smiled "I never said you were" he smiled. She put her feet on the floor and stood up slowly holding the bed it was the first time she had stood up in 4 days. She nodded her head tears in her eyes and Iain walked over "do you want some help now?" He asked she nodded and he shut the blinds "here, just get changed here" he said sitting her down again "here, turn around let me undo this" he said she turned away from him and undid the ties on the back of her gown, but not taking it off he picked up her T-shirt "just slip this on" he said she nodded and pulled it over her head letting the gown fall to her waist on the bed. "Here" he said passing her underwear she put them on carefully and Iain kneeled on the floor "put your feet in" he smiled she put her feet in her jogging bottoms and Iain stood up holding her hands "stand up slowly" he said she stood up slowly and painfully and Iain pulled her jogging bottoms up. "Come here" he said she hugged him and he rocked her back and forth "I love you" he said she smiled "I love you too" she said. Iain walked over to the cot and picked their baby up and put her in the car seat Ruby sat on the bed and smiled "ready to go home?" He asked she nodded "do you want me to go and get a wheelchair?" He asked she shook her head "of course not I've had a baby not major surgery" she smiled "but it hurts you to stand let alone walk" he said "I'll be fine" she smiled he held her hand as she stood up just then Jan knocked on the door "come in" said Iain she poked her head around and smiled "hello stranger" she smiled Ruby smiled "and stop trying to walk you've been told it's going to be sore" said Jan "I'm going home" she said jan nodded "that's brilliant" she smiled walking in. "Why don't I carry baby out and then Iain can help you" she said Ruby nodded "thank you" she said she smiled "not a problem" she said. Ruby stood up slowly and Iain held her arms "one step at a time" he said she nodded and took a step forward. They walked out of the room and down the corridor. "Alright?" He asked she nodded "I will be" she said "come here" he said as they got to the door he picked her up bridal style carefully and she held around his neck "I'm going to look after you" he said she smiled "and I'm going to look after you" she smiled quietly into his neck. They walked to the car and got in driving home.
