The scan

Elle looked at Ruby sympathetically "I can do it for you if you want, let's just check how baby is doing" she smiled Ruby nodded "There's one thing I need to do first" she said "what's that?" Asked Jan "ring Iain, because he deserves to be here" she almost cried Jan nodded "I'll do that, you go with Elle" she said Ruby nodded "thank you" she said walking off with Elle. "First time mum then" smiled Elle she nodded "everyone finds it scary" she smiled "I know, I just, oh what have I done" she cried "it's going to be okay" she said Ruby nodded "I just panic that's all about everything and I think the best thing to do is forget about it, when really Elle I don't forget about it, I've spent the last 3 months overthinking everything that could go wrong" she cried "that's not you that's your anxiety, that's what it does Ruby" she said "but my anxiety is me, that's who I am" she cried just then Iain and Jan walked around the corner "can we come in" said Jan. Elle looked at Ruby and Ruby nodded "of course" said Elle they walked in and Iain looked at his distraught girlfriend. "Hey, hey come on, whatever's wrong?" He asked sitting down with her "I'm so so sorry" she cried "I'll be outside" said Jan Elle nodded as she left. "I haven't had a scan" said Ruby "what?" He asked "Iain I was scared, I am scared" she cried "wait you haven't ever had a scan?" He asked she shook her head "I'm sorry" she cried "why do you keep saying your sorry?" He asked "has something happened?" He added "Iain" said Elle "we need her a bit calmer we're going to do a scan now" she said "why Ruby?" He asked. She took a deep breath and composed herself "because until I knew for sure, I was taking the beta blockers for my anxiety, and I'm so so scared that they've done something to the baby" she cried Iain just hugged her "it's alright, it's okay" he said rubbing her back "I love you" he said stroking her hair "I love you too" she cried "right let's have you laying down" smiled Elle. Ruby sat back and lied down and Iain held her hands "I've got you" he said she turned to face him and away from the machine and then a heartbeat filled the room and Ruby just smiled tears rolling down her cheeks "a very very beautiful healthy baby by the looks of things" smiled Elle Iain smiled and Ruby turned to look at the machine "that's my baby" she cried Iain smiled and hugged her "I love you both so much" he smiled she smiled into his shoulder. Elle really was so happy for them. "About 5 months Rubes" she said Ruby nodded "thank you" she smiled "do you want to know the gender?" She asked they both shook their heads "no, no we want to be a surprise" smiled Ruby Elle nodded "okay" she smiled wiping her stomach and passing her 2 photos "everything seems amazing so don't worry, worrying isn't good for the baby" she smiled Ruby nodded and stood up holding Iain's hand "let's go home" he smiled she nodded and they walked out Jan looked at them "it's fine" smiled Iain Jan hugged Ruby "I told you it was going to be okay" she said Ruby nodded "and I should listen to you" smiled Ruby. "Anyway I've got something for you" she said "have you?" She asked Ruby nodded and passed her a photo "for nanny Jan" she smiled "oh Ruby" she said "you only get 2" she said "and we live in the same house we can put it in a frame, I want you to have it" she smiled "because you are going to be the worlds most amazing nanny and I want you to be part of this baby's life, that's if you want to be" she said Jan smiled tears in her eyes and hugged Ruby "oh of course I do" she smiled Ruby smiled "right well, we better get home" she smiled "get some sleep" smiled Jan she nodded and held Iain's hand and they walked out.
