I'm going to put you in her point of view, how she lives, at least from what I see. Imagine not even having a name of your own, there are things and names someone might call you right now but step out of that, get rid of your name, and I'm going to give you a new one, one you don't want. That's not fair is it? Really, too bad. Now with your new name that you don't want still having the original on your mind, we're going to go somewhere. Where we're going doesn't matter because I'm not going to tell you, why would I? You also need to get rid of anything of significant value, they could be tracked. We have to get extremely far from here, we don't get to go to somewhere you want to go, somewhere close or familiar, no we have to go to a new state at the very least, at least two states away, some place warmer would be ideal, but too predictable. Now Gretchen I know, that wouldn't be my first choice either, it really wasn't, we needed something far off, plain and difficult to track. Being your mother I should have known how to avoid this, I should have been able to protect you, now I will, we'll be fine, together. She lied though because one day you came home and your mother wasn't there, and she wasn't there the next day either, it just kept repeating and you knew. The real reason you had to come to this horribly named city in Virginia, yeah we don't really like it either, but those more immature get a kick out of sex being in the name. This part is easier to imagine if you already have a step dad but you're back in your original home, in your old home, because it was a home and not just a house, your mother tells you the two of you need to get out of there, your stepfather tried to kill your mother and what could you do, you can't fight back, you're too weak for that, again not an insult but a fact, you need to leave and your name is Gretchen.
