YOU DA BADDEST- FUTURE

all these diamonds on me
how could i say no?

walking besides each other to the south wing of their high school, aliyah wondered why joey had chosen to be so close with her. let alone walk her to class, take her on small dates, and even be concerned about her well being at the horrid- dark hours of 3 am. not only was she confused, but concerned for her own well being. was she getting played with? used? who knew, she only knew she was being treated at least well. for now.

"we have a test today." joey frowned, immediately gaining her attention and body language. "what? really? what class." the shorter brunette asked, rather confused. joey cocked an eyebrow at her, also confused as to why she was confused. he knew she was normally on top of stuff like this. "you didn't know?" he asked. she shook her head. she literally had never not studied for a test until meeting him. that being said, he was a distraction. "i didn't study." she cringed at the sentence that dumbfoundedly left her lips. this wasn't normal for her, but the most important thing to her was not failing this test.

joeys sudden, but very gentle grip to her forearm made her snap out of a trance. "yes?" she bummed. his eyes took rather longer than a minute to rank her face, both examining and adoring every feature. "you're out of it." he mumbled, then beginning to walk as his hand non chalantly slid down her arm and into her hand. she froze up mid second to take in that he had intertwined fingers with hers. "i just- i barely slept." she retorted, easily walking into the classroom and earning the stares of peers.
joey watched as her hand gave his a gentle squeeze, while taking a seat into the bench by the table. "it'll be okay." he whispered, soothing her nerves just a tad.

the teacher began speaking about the rules while aliyah stayed tense— and aware of her surroundings. she didn't know much about what the test was on, so her nerves were extra tense. "aliyah!" the teacher snapped, watching as her leg bounced up and down on the concrete floor of the classroom. quickly, she stopped and froze up. "yes?" she gulped, hearing very few snickers from behind her. from the corner of her eye she saw joey turn back, shooting his hardest glare at everyone behind them and his thumb stroking the back of her hand that his held. the teacher only sent back a warning gaze and continued to hand out the tests.

ten minutes into the exam and aliyah's stomach felt viral. she squeezed her eyes shut, as well as squeezing the pencil so tight it could've snapped. but it didn't. it took her less than a second to notice her palm beginning to get sweaty so she gave joeys hand one last squeeze before letting go, and instantly regretting squeezing. what if it had been like squeezing a wet sponge? she cringed, while joey glanced at his hand with a ping of diss appointment and sudden sadness. something only he noticed. he glanced worriedly at her before continuing to jot down the answers.

on the other hand, she felt sick to her stomach. she could feel her skin tingling while she fidgeted with the flannel that clung to her skin, and with that, she sprung from her seat and fled out of the classroom. joeys eyes shot up, following her and filling his void less face, now with concern. as she fled down the hallways, she could hear his voice. coaxing her to come back, or talk to him. but words couldn't explain how she felt her legs turn to jello during the test. her parents would hate her, not only that, but she wouldn't be able to stay with mackenzie anymore. it was more than a break to stay with her, it was a breath of fresh air.

pushing the bathroom stall open with her body, and flying into the stall, she immediately shut it and began panting— panicking. she placed both hands on each side of the stall, trying at something to grip some object, and finally when she reached to the toilet paper she pulled some out, gripping and squeezing at the thin, sandpaper feeling material. "adri" joey breathed out from the other side of the stall. he stared down, immediately recognizing her shoes. dirty nike air force ones. he approached the stall, giving it the most gentle knock. no reply. he grew worried almost instantly. "adri." he cooed, coming out more sad since his voice had broken in between her name.
finally, the door made a click, unlocking.

she sat in the corner of the stall, crossing her arms and staring emotionlessly into the tiles. "are you okay?" he whispered, standing still and straight. he was worried, more worried than when he picked up maddie from the party in fact. he took a gulp when she opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. she sighed. "i don't think we should speak anymore." she finally gutted into him. he felt the weight in both his shoulders and chest come back. "what?" he asked. she shook her head and continued to speak while still making no eye contact. "i don't.. think we should speak anymore.. or text, or hang out." she forced out from her lips. with no hesitation she pushed past him, shoving his shoulder and leaving him alone in the girls bathroom.

his facial expression grew sour, like he had tasted a lemon warhead, or swallowed one of the most sour things ever. but it wasn't his reaction, his eyes began brimming tears and his posture went more slumped, preposterous. he pivoted on his heel and slammed the bathroom door open to leave. instead of heading back to class, he left the school.
