Chapter 12: If That's What You Want

I wrote a really long intro/author's note but my internet connection flunked and I'm now really pissed off so I'll keep this short.

            “Sorry we’re a bit late,” Eiji said to Ayako.

            They just arrived at the university and like their normal routine Eiji dropped her off before parking the car.

            “It’s okay,” Ayako said before getting off the car.

            Actually, it was her fault why they were late. She woke up in a good mood so she decided to cook for Eiji. Unfortunately, the cooking took longer than she expected. But she still insisted they eat first before going to the university. Eiji was being considerate and took the blame.

            She watched as the car was parked. Usually by now, she would have left. But today it’s different.

            Come on, Ayako. It’s now or never.

            She took a deep breath to calm her nerves then walked towards the car.

            Eiji just got off the car. “Aya? What–”

            He didn’t get to finish his sentence because Ayako suddenly hugged him.

            “See you later, Eiji.”

            Then she half walked, half jogged away.

            Eiji’s jaw dropped. He stood there, speechless and dumbfounded.

           Did Ayako just... hug me?

            “You’re gonna swallow some bug if you don’t close your mouth soon.”

            Eiji glared at Dong Min who was walking towards him. “Why do you always appear at random moments?”

            “Simple. The author of this story loves me because I’m her favorite character.”

            Of course no one answered him because the author is busy trying to think of a way to gently let Dong Min know that actually Eiji is her favorite character.

            “Bummer,” Dong Min said when only silence followed what he said. Then in a serious tone he said, “But we really have to catch up to Ayako now before she reaches the bulletin board. She’s not going to like what she’ll see there.”

            “Why? What’s going on?”

            “What’s going on?” Aya whispered to herself.

            She was walking down the hall and instead of the usual chirpy greetings from her schoolmates, she only got stares.

            She saw Min Ji up ahead. “Min Ji! Wait up!” She tapped Min Ji’s shoulder when she caught up with her.

          Min Ji flinched and fearfully looked at her. “Go to the bulletin board, Ayako,” She said before running away.
