“I’m really sorry! I promise I’ll finish it this week-end.”

“It’s okay Jessie. I know you’re busy. It’s exams week after all. Don’t worry about the report and just focus on your exams, okay?” Ayako smiled and gave Jessie a friendly pat on the shoulder. Then she walked away.

               “Ayako is so cool!”

               “Not to mention, smart.”

               “Kind too!”

“I wish I could be her friend!”

Ayako continued to smile and occasionally waved back to the students who greeted her. She was well known in Seoul University as a smart, beautiful and gentle girl, the girl who never once uttered a harsh word to her schoolmates. She was their role model, their idol.

“Annoying! If she couldn’t finish it, she shouldn’t have taken that assignment! Argh, I am so pissed off!” Ayako ranted as soon as she was inside their heavily tinted car.

In reality, this is Ayako’s attitude.

                  “Relax, Princess.”

“Shut up Hachiro! Or do you want me to punish you?” Ayako grabbed her katana from under the car seat and drew it threateningly close to her driver’s throat.

All the people in the university, including her professors, thinks she is from a high-class family in Japan.

Oh she is from Japan alright but her family is anything but high-class. She came from a house of Yakuza and she is the eldest of the three daughters of the master. Because of the lack of a male heir, the responsibility of being the leader after her father was given to her. Her father trained her with swords since she was little and taught her all she needed to know to handle the clan well.

But she was getting tired of always staying in their ancestral home with only her father and his men's company. Her mother died when she was 5 years old and her sisters were taken to a relative's house after her mother's death so she had no female to talk to or even just someone who weren't going to talk about fights every 5 minutes of the conversation.

So she convinced her father to let her study in Korea with the excuse of observing the Korean gangs and accessing the situation of their allies there.

Her father agreed on the condition that she would bring Hachiro, her right-hand man, with her.

A laugh drew her attention away from her thoughts.

She narrowed her eyes at Eiji, her father’s godchild.

Eiji’s parent’s died when Eiji was 8 years old so her father took him in. She was 6 years old then.

“What are you doing here? Doing errands for my father again?” Ayako mocked.

She and Eiji practically grew up with each other but they were never friends. Ayako’s father often compared her with Eiji when they were young, and she always came second to his abilities in her father’s eyes so Ayako resented him for it.

Eiji shrugged. “Nope. Just came to see how you were doing. And considering you didn’t sense me at all, I’m guessing you’re not faring very well. If I was an enemy, you would have been dead by now.”

She gave him a pointed stare. “Hachiro would have warned me if an enemy came in. He would never betray me. He’s not you.”

Eiji sighed. “How many times will I have to tell you that I didn’t betray you? That bastard–”

“Shut up, Eiji. I didn’t believe you then, I wouldn’t believe you now.”

Eiji sighed again but didn’t say anything more.

3 years ago, she had a boyfriend. He knew she was a Yakuza’s daughter and yet he loved her just the same. She was happy. So happy that she went and told Eiji about him since she couldn’t contain the happiness anymore. But Eiji had to blabber to her father about her boyfriend. Her father, enraged, threatened her boyfriend. She never saw him again after that. Eiji insisted that her boyfriend didn’t really love her but why would she believe a traitor’s word?

The car was engulfed in silence. No one spoke through-out the ride. But when they reached her house and Eiji started to go in, she had to speak.

“You are not allowed inside my house! Go to Hachiro’s house. Or better yet, go home to Japan!” She yelled at him.

Eiji just grinned. “It is not your house anymore, Ayako. It is our house.”

            “WHAT?!”
