Lizbeth's POV
5:50am
August 16th
I awoke to see the sun shining through my blinds. I heard my phone vibrating. I rolled over to the edge of my bed to pick it up from off my nightstand to see Fernando's picture pop up on the screen.
"Yes?" I asked rubbing my eyes
"Good-morning to you too" He said
"Right, Good morning" I said
"get ready, picking you up at 7:00" he said as he hung up
I took my phone off my ear as I laid there processing what he just said. I sat up from bed, stood up and walked into the bathroom, showered, washed my face, brushed my teeth and applied lotion on my body. I walked back my bedroom going through my wardrobe. I picked out a grey, red and green sweater and my black ripped jeans. I exited my room to go into the kitchen to see eat some yogurt while I waited for Fernando to pick me up.
"You're up early?" My sister sis walking into the living room ready for school
"I'm going with Fernando to pick up Johnny..he gets released today" I said
"Tell him I said hello and to stay out of trouble" she said
"I'll be sure of that" I said as I heard a honk from outside. I looked at my phone to see it was 6:30
"see ya later" I said exiting my house without looking back. I got into Fernando's car as I have him a stern look
"What?" He asked as he began driving
"You said seven it's six twenty three" I said
"Yeah I lied a little bit. My mom wanted me to bring you over to breakfast before we go off" he said
"Oh! Even better" I said laughing
"Hardy har you're welcome" he said smiling showing his shiny white teeth
"That's why we're besties" I said poking his shoulder
"You think anyone will notice you and I are gone?" He asked as he was making a turn down the street
"I know Andy and Irina will notice. Doubt anyone else would" I said checking my phone to see the time
"What if Luna notices?" Fernando asked getting serious
"He's just being nice...not tryna get with me" I said rolling my eyes
"You never know" he said shrugging his shoulders. Now he's being petty. Wonderful.
We attained at his his house. We both stepped out the door shutting our doors behind us. We walked up to his house as he used his house key to unlock his house. He allowed to step in first as he shut his front behind him. When we entered I came to smell of arroz con chorizo mixed with a chocolate smell. We entered his dining room to see four plates places with chorizo and Arroz along with orange juice. Martha came in and saw me and smiled like never before. She came up to hugging me as I hugged her back. She let go as she looked at me up and down like a proud mother.
"Ya estas grande Mija!" (You're all grown up honey!) she said
"Gracias pero no mas tengo quince años" I said giving her a soft smile (thanks, but I'm only just fifteen)
"You already look grown, glad to finally see you around here" Martha said eyeing Fernando
"Sorry Ma" Fernando said
"Bueno pues ándale come" (okay then cmon eat) Martha said as she gestured us to sit down
"Where's Carlos?" I asked as I sat down
"He's in the bathroom he'll be out shortly" Martha said as she sat down placing the tortillas next to the bowl of Picó de Gallo salad
"Lizbeth!!" I heard as I looked up to see Carlos giving me the biggest smile ever. Fernando's parents have always been welcoming people and I've always appreciated it
"Carlos!! Hi!" I said as I got up to give a hug as he gave one back
"Como as estado?" (How have you been?) he asked
"Pretty well, what about you?" I asked as I took a bite of the delicious chorizo con arroz
"I'm just glad my boy Johnny is coming back" he said smiling at me
"I'm glad, I missed him so much time flies fast" I said
"It really does. I'm just glad Fernando here isn't getting himself into trouble..well besides that fight but other than that he's fine" Martha said patting Fernando's shoulder. I looked over at him and saw him tense up. I was thinking it was because he just felt pressured. As we all were already eating. But Fernando got up.
"Alright Lizbeth and I gotta get going, I'll bring back Johnny safe and then we can eat breakfast" Fernando said as he got up and wiped his mouth clean
"You guys should eat first and then head out..never mind Alright be safe and drive at the speed limit okay?" Martha asked
"Yeah yeah got it mom" he said putting his arm behind my back to get me out of his house. We exited his house as we entered his car. Something was up and I wasn't going to let him get away with it this time.
"I saw what you did there" I said as I gave him a serious death glare. He looked up and then at me looking away
"Did what?" He asked
"don't act stupid. You did something. What is it?" I asked
"It's nothing I just feel pressured that I had to-
"Stop with the lies" I said as I grabbed his hands firmly. He looked at them and then me sighing trying to process what he was going to say.
"I got into a predicament last summer...with the Andersons" he said
"What!! The Anderson's?? you're kidding me!" I yelled at him slapping his arm out of anger he flinched as he rubbed his arm "ouch" he said looking offended that I just hit him
"I'm sorry! I was going through a really dark and hard time and I had to find a way to cope with the fact that I didn't have Johnny around...The fact that my parents were on the verge divorce...I was going through shit!" He said looking more worried than scared
"You know the Anderson's father hate your father right? and you know that more than anything...and you do realize whatever problem you got into with those boys means you're in actual danger"
"And you think I don't know that?!" He said glaring at me
"What predicament is it?" I asked looking at him analyzing his face
"....I bought weed...multiple grams and I owe them over $700 and then I stole a gun from them...they found about the gun a-and they've been on my ass about it, calling me at night saying they'll kill me...and my family, The only reason they haven't done anything is because I said I'm saving the money" he said shutting his eyes for a second and then opening them out of stress already
"You don't have the $700 saved up don't you?" I asked shaking my head
"you gotta help me...I don't give them this money by the end of this year or find that god damn gun. Anyone I love and me are goners" he said grabbing both my hands
"That means, you, me, your parents and Johnny are goners you idiot.. and you lost the gun?!..I will help you to the best I can. But you owe me" I said pointing at him right in the face. He looked at me nodded. Giving a soft smile. We got into the car and sped off to pick up Johnny. By the time he's here hopefully Fernando doesn't get himself into more trouble.
