He sees the way they look at him with disgust and hatred. At least he still has his friends. But, in fact, does he? Does he really think his friends will trust him anymore? Of course not. The war took a toll on everything, but most of all, their friendship.
He sees the way the old man looks at him. He can never tell exactly what it is, but he knows there's mistrust in there. Who would trust a dark creature? Who would want to be friends with a dark creature?
He heard them talk when they thought he wasn't listening. He heard their plans to poison him. He couldn't believe they would do this. After all those promises of never leaving him and always being there.
He sees them bring him the drink. It's laced with poison. He knows it is. His friends know it is. But they don't know that he knows. He sees them look at him with anticipation as he takes the drink.
He accidentally spills it. He was not drinking it. Not when he knows what it is. He tries not to cry as he looks into his "friends" eyes and sees disappointment. They're disappointed they couldn't kill him.
His friends get up and put on a fake smile. They leave him all alone. Ever since his mother died, he was always alone. He just never noticed it.
He couldn't believe it. Why had they done this? Don't they trust him? Why not? What did he do wrong? Maybe they're right. Maybe he is a monster. Fine then. If they don't trust him for no reason, then he was going to give them a reason.
Maybe it was time to accept the invitation. After all, they promised him respect and a higher place in the world. And if they didn't keep the promise, he would just kill them.
Fenrir wasn't half bad once you got to know him. Maybe he should give him a chance. Maybe, just maybe, he could find people who understood how he felt. How it felt to be betrayed by the people he trusted.
Just, maybe.
