SOPHIE'S POV

I stared as the haunting CARNIVAL stared back. I shuddered.

What caused me this strange phobia?

The line was long and people were all crowded together.

Why do they even like to go here?

"Why did I even agree to this?" I whined.

"Stop complaining, at least we're next!" Nika said.

Whatever.

I saw Yannie texting someone. Oooh! What have we got here?

I stealthily tried to snatch her phone but she held them out of reach.

"Uh-uh." She wiggled her fingers at me. "Nika, could you go with me? Mom asked me to buy something."

"And you're just gonna leave me here? In this haunted place?" I said when they started to walk away.

"We need someone to line up for us!" they shouted back.

"But you said you were gonna be with me-"

I suddenly felt someone cover my eyes. "Guess who?"

Instinctively, my leg shot up to knee him but he jumped in front of me, "Surprise!"

"Neil?" Nate cringed. "Why are you here?"

He grinned, letting the horrible nickname pass. "To have fun of course." His dimples caught my eyes.

But where were Yannie and Nika... Don't tell me

"They-"

"Excuse me, your tickets please?" The man behind the table interrupted.

Nate handed two tickets and we were usherd in.

The noise of the carnival was radiating around us and while he was busy admiring the rides, I was busy staring daggers at him, burning a hole in his head.

He turned to me and noticed my ambiance. "Oh come on, let's just have fun Pia."

Remember Yannie and Nika's plan? Act like a good girl, a good girl.

 "Okay." I sweetly smiled.

He seemed taken aback by my sudden mood swing. "Are you sure?" He asked but immediately waved it off and smiled.

He pulled me first towards the ring toss.

The guy in the booth looked like Squidward, even smells like him. "Here are five rings. Shoot three, pick a prize." He said in a bored tone.

"Just three?" Nate scoffed.

After wasting 15 rings, he still couldn't shoot one.

"Just three?" I mocked him.

He pouted. "Let's go find a different game."

He was so cute, I wanted to pinch his cheeks right then. Wait, what? I meant I wanted to punch him in the face. Yeah, that's right. Punch not pinch.

I punched his arm. "Nate..."

"You're hungry aren't you?" He chuckled, his bad vibes

My stomach growled in response. I smiled sheepishly and I noticed he looked shocked. I turned back, expecting someone or something but no one or nothing was there. The moment I faced him, his smile was even wider.

"Um, what's with the creepy smile?"

He shook his head trying to wipe off the grin but failed to do so. "Nothing. Let's go buy food."
