"I'll buy you something next time, Y/N."

"Sorry honey, I don't have any budget for today."

"Y/N, please understand your little brother, you're the oldest."

"Don't worry, Y/N, I'll buy you something next time.".

That's what you always heard when you and Hueningkai when you're little. Everytime you go to the mall, Hueningkai would ask for a toy and your mother would buy it with no hesitation but if it's you who will ask for something at your mother, she always refuses and promised you to buy it next time.

But you heard too much "next time". You badly wanted to be the one who gets the attention and the toys. You're itching to have the spotlight, even just for a day.

But having a younger sibling is an obstacle to your short-term dream. You curse your parents for being so horny while you were asleep in your own bedroom. You curse your mom for bringing your younger sibling to the world. You curse Hueningkai.

But then again, you're just kids. Everything will change once you grow up or while you're growing up.

    Wrong.

Everything stayed the same when you and Hueningkai are just kids. He got the attention and the rewards while you're stuck at his shadow, desperately trying to do something that will outshadow him.

    Like today.

You and Hueningkai are in 5th grade but you went home first to brag to your mom about your high score that you got on your History test.

You drop your schoolbag on the floor, carrying your History test with a huge smile on your face. You're overcome with the feeling of excitement that you'll finally have the spotlight to yourself and that buzzing feeling of pride that you'll finally outshadow Hueningkai.

You saw your mom at the kitchen, making dinner. You slightly pull her dress to grab her attention. She paused for awhile to look at you and give you the attention that you wanted.

    "Yes, honey?"

With a proud smile, you showed her your test with a huge 48/50 written in red. "I got 48!" you beamed proudly.

Your mom gave you a proud smile and strokes your hair, giving you a peck on the cheeks. "That's great, honey! Congraㅡ" She wasn't finished congratulating you when the least person you wanted to see arrived home.

"Mom! I got a perfect score!" Hueningkai yelled happily as he entered the kitchen, holding his History test with a huge 50/50 written in red. You glared at your sibling.

As your mom congratulated your brother and him getting all the attention, as the usual, you clenched your fists with anger as your glare sharpens.

It's supposed to be my spotlight. It's supposed to be my moment. I'm supposed to be the one who gets congratulated. I'm supposed to be the one who gets the attention.

While your mom is busy showering your younger sibling with compliments and praises, you forgot to take back your test and stormed off to your room to study and think of another way to beat Hueningkai.

HIGHSCHOOL

"Y/N-ah! You should join the Math Olympics! You're the best at Math out all of us!" Your friend, Erin, suggested with a huge smile on your face. Your other two friends agreed.
