Maya runs away

Riley's POV

I watch Maya walk away and I start to cry. I've fought with her before, but this time it was different. I know something is wrong with her, but she wouldn't admit to it. I slowly sulk back into the cafeteria and grab my stuff. Even though we're supposed to be in class, I sit with Lucas and Farkle. The both look at me and Lucas hugs me. I bury my face in his shoulders and sob.

"Why doesn't she trust me? Why? Why, why, why?" I mutter into his shirt.

"I'm sure she trusts you. It's nothing personal. You just have to trust her and give her time. Just trust her." He murmurs into my ear as he attempts to comfort me.

I go through the rest of the day with my dad badgering me about Maya and why she wasn't in class. I kept telling him that I didn't know, she just ran off during lunch and I haven't seen her since. When school lets out that day, I run out of the building, looking for Maya. I stop by a playground we used to love when we were little. She wasn't there. Lucas and Farkle catch up to me and I look at them with despair in my eyes.

"She isn't here. I tried to help her and I ended up hurting her. And now she's gone! What if this was the final straw and she never comes back? I need her! She's been my best friend since forever and now she's gone. Where are you Maya? Why did you have to leave me? I never meant to hurt you." I end up screaming at the boys, but I don't mean to. It just happens.

They wrap their arms around me, Lucas stroking my hair in a calming way. Farkle is talking to me, but I don't hear him. I don't hear anything. Suddenly, I see a thin girl with blonde hair and blue eyes standing in front of me. I run and hug her til it hurts us.

"I could never leave you Riles. You are my best friend, but sometimes people just need a break. I would never leave you forever. We need each other." Maya says. I just pull her back in for another hug, the guys joining us after a minute. I know that will be best friends forever.

Hey! Thank you guys so much for reading! I'm super pumped cuz this Saturday is my homecoming dance! YAY! This is my first school dance and I asked a cute guy, but he said no, so I'm just going to hang with a group of my friends. I can't dance to save my life, but it will just be fun to go and hang.
