Safety

Maya's POV

After what Lucas said, I just lost it. I know, it's stupid. He was offering me frozen yogurt, but it felt like I was everybody's charity case. I run away to the church, my only safe place. I swear, I hear footsteps behind me, but I'm too preoccupied to actually worry.

Lucas' POV

After Maya takes off, I decide to go after her. I'm not sure where she's running, but I stay hot on her tail. I think she forgot that I was on the cross country team. I follow her to the old church behind the playground. She climbs up onto the second floor window. I chose a more practical approach. I run around the front and open the doors and just take the stairs up. Despite all that, I still make it up before Maya. She throws herself in and looks a bit taken back when she sees me.

"What are you doing here?" She asks, startled.

"I followed you here. I was worried when you ran off, so I came after you. Why did you run off?" I ask her gently.

"Do you still like me?" She pressed.

"Of course I do! Why?" I respond with a smile.

"I want to know that I can trust you before I tell you the reasons. Also,

I want to do this." She lays her head on my lap. "The reason I ran off is because I hate charity. I have been everyone's charity all my life, and I don't want it anymore. I couldn't take being a persons charity anymore." She is crying into my lap which is uncomfortable for me.

I pick her up bridal style and tell her that I am taking her home. I carry her all the way home and we ride the elevator up. I stop in front of her door and let her down.

"Here you are darlin'" I say.

"You're as good at being a horse as you are at being a cowboy. By the way, Shawn didn't give me a key. Would you mind me crashing at your house tonight?" She says.

"First, thank you. I work out." I flex my arm to show her.

"Yep, you're chiseled as a rock." She replies, wrapping her dainty hands around my arm.

I laugh. "And secondly, yeah I don't mind you staying at my house." I opens the door to let me in. Flipping the light on, I finds a note. "Sorry Lucas. I had to go somewhere. I'll be back within a week. Love you!" I put the note back down. "What do you want to do now?"

She shrug and then decide to say. "I'm ready." And she kisses me hard.

We kiss and we find our way into my bedroom. Maya kicks the door shut and I pull the zipper down on her dress. She moves her arms so it falls down and she throws my shirt off. Then she unbuttons my pants and pull down both them and my underwear. I pull off her underwear and and unclip her bra and we spend the night together in my bed.
